So we did it, bumping Cora up to the 70-79 lb weight class to test her out and boy we weren't dissappointed. Great match, but the kid was very strong and limit Cora's attack. She wasn't really on her game today, but still it was a great match. He threw everything at her and she escape them like Houdini. Enjoy

After not having enough kids back in the 60-69 lbs division, we were asked to put Cora back into her division for the No- Gi. ANd guess who was there waiting for her...the same 13 year old that she fought 2 wks ago in Austin!!!!

After a couple of hard fights, then a very long walk (sight seeing), and a 3 hour drive home, Cora was so excited to find waiting for her at home was a beautiful 10thplanet T shirt from Rachel. THank you so much, it really make her day.

great fights, i was planning on signing up and to see cora fight, but had to rest up for work, ive been sick and figured i would train for the next tourney. Were there other 10p reps there.
Cora is a true warrior. Going up to fight 13 year old boys as a 10 year old girl takes mad heart and courage, I am VERY proud of Cora for being the savage that she is :-)
THank you everyone for all your words of encouragement and support. You know Cora work hard to prepare for each tournament, she juggles school with jiu jitsu. But as of late for the pass 2 weeks we haven't had much father/daughter time in the garage to drill because her teacher have been sending rediculous amount of homework. Needless to say that affect her jiu jitsu, but its cool as school will ALWAYS come first.
ANyways, yesterday we just wanted to test the water of San Antonio. We want to see what the bigger boys has to offer and it turn out to be a great battle. She does hold her own in that division. Although she lost all her matches as you can see, she really got the attention of everyone there. Win or lose people surely will remember this little girl. A couple of people came over and tell me that they been watching her videos..:) Some said that she has inspired their daughters, even when she lost. It really make her day hearing that after a tough lost.
Cora rightful division is in the 60-69 lbs. She basically has full control of this division here in Tx, if that 13 year old boy wasn't in it. So our goal is to catch up with him by the end of the year. He has so much more experience than her and every summer he goes and train at AOJ with the Mendez bro. The first time they meet, he taps her out in less than 20 seconds, the 2nd time they meet it was at 1 minute, this past weekend it took over 3 minutes for him to tap her out. So yes she is catching up with him. But she don't just want to catch up with him, she wants to avenge her losts. So with this in mind, please help me help my little girl. Please watch her videos and see if there is anything that we can do to speed up this process. I truly believe in this system and that this style, the 10thplanet style of fighting will help her defeat him. BUt finding the right mixture of things is the toughest thing. Or am I being delusional and thinking that my little girl can beat a much older and more experience boy? He is the only one on her hit list, the only one that really got under her skin and one that she is willing to train hard to defeat. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.. Bruce

I feel for her with the bigger boys. I am the smallest woman in my group and I know how getting squished like that feels. I have yet to tap any of them, BUT I am getting SO much stronger physically. I will say that I have started doing better since I quit trying to take mount- for me- it's a waste of energy as at some point through brute force a bigger opponent is going to stop you or buck you off once you finally get there.
Bigger opponents try to squish the air out of you to tire you when they have side control. I try really hard to keep my arms safe but at the same time make space to keep my airway open, control my breathing and think of my next move. It requires more energy to roll with someone bigger than you so expending that energy carefully is also important. I have started reacting to less of what they throw at me. I am very flexible so if they want to stack me- cool- I will let them use up energy on that all day. I have a low center of gravity so when they do that I shift my weight and make myself as heavy for that as possible.
I think the answer for me lies in rubber guard and twister. My legs are very strong- and I can defend better with them. I am working on getting opponents in my guard and submissions from that position.
I discovered last week that putting people who are much taller than you in twister control hurts them A LOT more than someone the same size. I have one class worth of experience in twister, but I just ordered Eddie's book :)
I have only have 3 months worth of experience, but have had to deal with being the runt the entire time. I have lots of experience with big people mopping the floor with me.
Cora is clearly a force to be reckoned with, and just as important, you are clearly a wonderful father and she will be a better woman for it. Thanks for sharing her experience with us!
Bruce, watch my match with Royler and have Cora master the "jailbreak", it's how I reclaimed guard several times in that match. There are 3 different ways to do it, but I only did it 2 different ways in that particular match. Cora is so ready for jailbreaks :)
