duh
Nice, did it go clear through?
Split all the way around the lip to the inside. Five stitches.
I don't know if a mouthguard would have stopped it actually, but I won't roll without one again.
I don't allow anyone to roll without one. Its not teeth and lips im worried about its the concussions.
Yeah man, I have a killer headache. Never again.
Rule in our dojo is no mouthguard no rolling. The instructor is super strict about it no exceptions.
They advise guys wear a cup, but nothing is mandatory.
I won't wear a cup. I had bruised ribs for 4 weeks after repping with a guy who used a cup at the detroit seminar. I wouldn't do that to another person.
I don't require cups. Some of the tourneys won't allow them anyways. Mouthguards are mandatory.
Getting hit in the nuts sucks, but spending a small fortune at the dentist is worse.
The concussion chances are pretty high as well.
Half the dudes in the Peterborough moon roll without mouthguards. Like I said, I never do. Tonight was a first and last.
Wow.. that got to hurt brother. It hurts me just looking at it. And yall know my feeling on cups. Just about a couple of months ago, the coaches here implement that mouth guard rule also. No mouthguard, no rolling.
I will not even do tech without one. I had my dentist make me two, The first one was free and the second one he only charged me 25 bucks ( even though there is about 50 bucks in cost to each one). I was so happy with the fit and asked them about making them for our youth program. He offered to make one for each of our youth for FREE. I ended up getting 15 of our youth free custom fit mouth guards. Its worth talking to your dentist about it...a lot of people dont realize they may make them free for patients.
I rarely roll with a mouthguard, I don't wanna end up like Quatoof :)
yes I always roll without any mouthguard, cup or ear protection. Might actually start wearing a mouthguard though. :)
Yeah I wear MatMan head gear too.
Only mouthguard I can roll in is the Cliff Keen Protech Dent:
Made with the wrestler in mind, the Protech Dent™ Mouth Guard allows you to breathe, talk, and drink while keeping your teeth protected. Adult size.

I'll have to check that out.
How much?
I got a two pack over a year ago from Scoreboard Wrestling for $35, but looks like they don't carry it anymore. It also looks like it's been re-branded as the SISU mouthguard: http://www.sisuguard.com/ and goes for $25 or $35 depending on model.
nice
I have had many custom guards and rarely roll without one. For $100 these days you can get an awesome one and a custom is the only way to go . Cauliflower protects my ears and I have two kids already so no cup necessary :)
Enjoy the next time you have to sneeze.:)
WTF my lips get battered up even with a mouth guard. Forgot it twice and I was bleeding twice.
Can't wear cups cause my balls are too big and the XL ones are made for giant guys so they press on my thighs. I do need to figure this out though cause I'm terrified when doing stand up.
My cup is like green lanterns ring, the source of my power. I have custom made mouth guards from the dentist and I try not to roll without it.
I have no idea how you guys could get away with not wearing mouthguards. Are we doing the same sport here? You dont catch accidental blows to the face? You dont get cross faced? You never eat mat in a scramble? You dont grind your lips on your teeth attempting to pop out of chokes? I accidentally kneed my coach in the jaw, hard, a few months ago. I have a bruise on my cheek from last night.
I know brent, hell probably all of you are better than me and win at tourneys. Why the hell am i training like this? if i can win without a thousand little injuries along the way I guess i'd prefer it. Now that im thinking about it, I only see guys really bring it hard like wrestlers in not even 1/4 videos i've seen. Normally its all slow and technical.
suppose i'll just be doing whatever my coach wants but im really curious about this.
We only roll for an hour. Most of it is spent standing around while they show us the moves. Worse thing that has happened to me so far: Open hand slap to the top of the head. It was a headlock defense and my partner had much longer arms. Even blocking it, I still took the shot.
Actually, past white belt: your cross faces control well but don't "grind", accidental elbow extremely rare, most chokes are clean or pressure won't get applied, your rolls will be more fluid and smooth, your training partners will be smoother and more advanced.
"Roll harder Peterborough."
Roll softer bro, you will advance faster, trust me.
....and wear a mouthpiece and cup! Good ones too, Dentist made mouthpiece and a diamond MMA cup..
i guess i believe you as far as your technique will improve but ill get taped every single time unless other people roll softer? When someone is aggressively pursuing dominate positions and going as hard and fast as they can in scrambles I cant really handle it without picking it up myself, unless they are new or a lot lighter than me.
guess i shouldn't be telling anyone how to roll.
