Exactly. I was surprised that he has done this honestly but his explanation made more sense. His previous MMA fights have been punches, takedowns, and then subs or TKOs from the mount. I expected him to do that this season but I don't mind seeing him heel hook everyone either. But I hope we get to see some of his top game in the UFC because it's ridiculous and better than his bottom game.
Another thing he said was that in MMA it's easier to heel hook people from the 50/50 than no-gi matches because in MMA people are more relentless about staying on top. And that makes it harder to escape the position and the best way to escape is to concede a sweep and maybe go to the bottom. But in MMA people try to stay on top and punch or try to yank their leg out without going to the bottom.
But can he take a punch? Because if he cant take a shot then he will be no match for someone with average or better striking and some general idea of how to not end up in a leglock right away.
He took a couple shots standing so far, has been training at Tristar for a while now, I guess we will see
So far he lasted longer in MMA than a bunch of bjj stars, has 5 fights now I think
I think he needs to start working for the clinch or he's opening himself up to a flying knee KO or a well timed uppercut. He needs to study some Palhares tape. Palhares, despite his tendency to hold onto subs too long, is a great prototype for BJJ in MMA.
Ryan Hall is the most exciting BJJ competitor on the show since Chris Holdsworth won it all
Amazing, he's really representing BJJ in TUF. Can't wait to see him in UFC!
