It also helps if you make the Herzog "O" face while curling the toes.

Practice with a medicine ball between your knees. Hold it cross ur legs as if you have lockdown extend it out then whip knees to chest and over. then whip back to center and do the same in the opposite direction. Trust it works.
Get bigger legs do squats and lunges.
It's not a question of will they or won't they work. It's pretty clear that ankle sleeves are advantageous, but rolling without them forces you to have a very technical lockdown. I don't use ankle sleeves and I credit that with helping me figure out the nuances of the lockdown a lot faster.
As to how to keep it tighter, don't just figure-four the legs. Squeeze the knees together and slide the hooking foot down to your opponent's ankle.
I could be wrong but I don't think even the best of lockdowns can combat sweat pretty much the reason I use ankle and shin sleeves and it has easily upped my lockdown and HG game by leaps and bounds even eddie likes to use his GI pants as friction I doubt you'll see him sport vale tudo shorts again like when he beat a certain someone but again I could be wrong I just know its helped me a whole lot
you know what they see once go sleeves you dont want to leave (yea i kno stupid dont worry Im hangin myself as I type lol)
They usually curl their leg toward their buttock or stand up on their knee .Quote:

I normally wear gi pants even on no-gi days anyway to help soak up some sweat... but just sayin. +1 for the toes up tip, now that I think about it (and practice my lockdown on thin air under my desk) I think I usually end up pointing my toes
My lockdown has been greatly improved by Herzogs tip, thank you sir, but my whip up still sucks. I tend to just roll over into dog fight and see what happens...:(
