Rampages head movement was very good. He did better than I imagined also! His problem was closin the distance.
I think this is the first time people have seen jones fight to not lose. I feel like he could have finished rampage if he wanted to at any point but fought conservatively.
Isn't it strange how they are attracted to winning? I would just go and swing for the fences and hope to win instead of playing it smart and making SURE i win. That makes SO much sense.
Fact is he annihilated Rampage.
"If you want to compare a Jon Jones fight, you compare it to any fight ever that wasn't fought by Jon Jones"
Just watched kill bill so forgive, but he really did put on a good display of striking and FINISHED him.
What more do you want? This isn't tekken
The interesting thing about that: even while fighting conservatively, he still finished the fight. :)
That's not quite accurate. Jackson guys actually have a lot of finishes and rack up a ton of bonuses for FOTN, Sub of the night, and KO of the night. Condit finishes. Jones finishes. Brian Stann finishes. Guillard finishes. The list goes on. I think Jackson gets that rep for GSP's current style. But as far as that whole camp goes, they are finishers.
And like I said, even when Jones fights conservatively, he still finishes the fight...against a guy who's never been tapped in the UFC.
Be in denial all you want, but the truth is, while Jones wasn't exactly always out of harm's way, he was never put in a bad position. On the other side, Jones put Rampage in more than a few bad positions. I'd say that it was a one sided fight. So I'd say that he dominated.
I just think it was a range issue for both fighters. Jones only wanted to engage from the outside or grapple. The entire inside was given away to Jackson but he had to figure out how to get in there, which he didn't. It was a great tactical fight with Jones being able to dictate the range. That pocket range is where most KOs will naturally happen and Jones wasn't willing to trade and give counter strike openings to Rampage.
You'll see a similar thing play out in any fight with a drastic reach difference.
when i watched the fight i was excited and thought JJ learned a new werid fighting style so after he stood back up and started fighting normal i didn't give a shit what happened.
