Didn't Ryan Fortin start his affiliation as a white belt? My point was you have options. If you're not willing to put in the work you may as well quit.
And everybody that has posted here arent trolls. You're making half ass excuses and people are calling you out on it. That's what I love about this forum., people won't pussy foot around and they will call you on your bullshit.
Understood. But i put in more work and more money than anyone I know. I have gave everything to Jiu Jitsu and will continue to do so.. So Thanks again but mental battles are not bullshit they are everyday life, and everyone has to work through them and sometimes need help to work through them.
post some nude pics and we can call it even.
on it.
I agree with 90% of this thread, however I saw one statement that the forum is great because people call bull shit and use honesty. That's true to an extent, but any forum has keyboard warriors, who aren't willing to take it up on the mats or as Chael would call it "the people's forum".
The other thing thats cool about 10th Planet is we all F*@k up. It's a family, when we do expect to get slapped in the head by everyone.
I think it has happend to all of us at some point. Be greatful...... I acted disrespectfully at atournament out of frustration a long time ago. My head slapping/spanking came from Master Eddie. Be happy yours came from a bunch of warriors, not the general.lol.
Hope your thumb heals fast, One of my instructors blew his apart a long time ago. Had surgery. My dad had a compound fracture and disslocation a couple of years ago of his, had surgery. They both healed up fine and still are badass, so don't worry you will come back as strong ever.
Good luck, just keep banging it out !!!!!!!
I said it before: If you don't have many tournaments in Alaska, organize them yourself!
Your right by a military base....... trust me there are dudes to roll with. I'm from a small town right next to a base, tons of talent makes it way to our school.
They Have compative teams. The head instructor for the base near us is one of our fighters and a friend of mine. He's the special forces recruiter for here. Let me know and I will have him get a name of someone to hook up with from the base near you. Trust me there are guys right there that can push you to improve and grow. The comp team comes in and rolls with us before they fly out for a compatition. I roll with all there guys and girls 160 and under. Thats your ticket to keep growing and they are as hungrey for comp as you, no problem setting up a hotbox.
It's okay to vent your frustrations Gerrit as I'm sure feeling like you worked hard for something with expectations of a certain outcome that fell short of what you wanted. From what I can see, people really are just a little shocked about the situation that you put your family in to attain those goals. The people on this forum I generally sincerely think mean well and want to help each other out, regardless of the fact that most of us have never met in real life. There's a connection here between all of us Nibirus that is hard to describe, but can definitely be felt. You're part of this tribe Gerrit, so while we're not going to tell you how to live your life, we want the members of our tribe to be the type of man or woman that protects their loved ones and family. I guess it's a tough love thing man. Take care of your wife and kid so their basic needs are always met, and no one here will say another word to you about wanting to progress. I hope you don't take this advice I'm giving badly my brother. If it angers you, I do apologize as angering you is not my intent. Good luck taking care of your wife and little one, and good luck progressing in our beautiful system at the same time.
I wanna be good at jj so bad i kick puppies and rape babies.
Gerrit nice of you to come to your senses Glad you realized how blessed you are to get to HQ, some of us have never been and train at other schools because we have to but at all times we REP this Family sir. So keep your head up and get on the mats.
Yeah man....i know your frustrated and stuff but just keep pushing ....things never go un-noticed....your time will come bro trust me.....stay up and hope to see you back in H.Q
sorry that there isnt a 10th planet around for a 250+ mile radius bro. We do what we can to learn. A lot of the schools people go to have been around longer than 10thplanet.Quote:
I dont "Expect" to get a belt from anyone or any other organization than the 10th Planet family unlike alot of u on the forums who settled for other schools.
4 miles dude, lol!?!? I've driven 2 hours back and fourth to practice, I used to have to jog/walk 4 miles back and fourth, I used to have to jog 2 miles to the bus, take the shitty bus to and home only to jog home at night in Compton. Herzog wrote a great post/reply once about how Jiu Jitsu is a privilege not a right. Find it, Read it, Live it.

I think I might be a dick. This thread made me lol.
LOL the ol' switcheroo. I'm not sure if you were looking for positive reinforcement or pity. From the posts I read, you DID get positive reinforcement. Focus on family=positive. Don't worry about belts=positive. You're blessed to have been able to trian at HQ=positive. Yeah it was tough love, but all the advice was positive.
As far as getting everything you've expected, I'm not sure if I buy it. Either you've changed your mind, or you're trying to save face. You said "8 years....8 years and nothing to show for it." That implies that you expected something and didn't get it. Here's some positive reinforcement: You DO have something to show for it. Knowledge. Experience.
On top of all that, it's kind of rude for you to make a negative judgement on guys who "settled for other schools." I'm sure everyone here will agree: some mat time is better than no mat time. They didn't settle. They made a positive decision. That doesn't negate their love for the system.
This actually sounds like pretty legit advice.
Truth is, if you keep waiting for situations to be perfect, you'll keep waiting for situations to be perfect. That's wasted time brother. You gotta MAKE the situation. When life closes a door, open a window. If there are no windows, get the tools out and MAKE a window homie.
And, lastly, there is a SMART way to sacrifice. You can avoid a lot of pain by properly preparing. All sacrifices involve risk, but how you prepare for those risks can change a lot. That's why trapese artists use safety nets. Feel me?
The feedback might not have been exactly what you were looking for, but it's good advice. I hope all the best for you.
Conner is right i do live right near a military base. But, there are no group that roll at that base. I have checked and have tried. Most of the Males in the base just got back from iraq and such or have just left. This thread is more me gripping about living in a shitty area. I know I know move. Only problem about moving is u have to have money. I work 60 hours a week and am trying my hardest to get out of here. And what i ment about settling for another school is, I dont like gi and I dont want to be ranked in gi. Most BJJ schools will not rank u unless u roll gi. The one in my town will Only rank u if u roll gi. I come from a wrestling background and prefer not to have it. Your all right. I am wrong. GG and i will work on my flaws.
Ay man, I can't imagine how tough it is for you to have such a strong passion for something with no outlet for it. But real talk, SOME mat time is better than NO mat time. Plus, who knows? You could make some good friends who are also interested in no gi/10th planet and wouldn't mind putting in work with you. You gotta change your mindset bro. Think of solutions. Not problems.
I know about those guys just getting back, trust me they are ready to roll. I see them ALL the time. They have nothing to do overthere. They have hotboxs set up at everybase. That's all those guys do to stay sane. They set up 2-3 times a week smoker's (boxing) , weightlifting, hotboxes for Jiu Jitsu. They beat the shit out of each other!!! There's guys at that base that want to roll, your talking to the wrong guy. They are probably saying
the same thing. No One To Roll With.
Put an ad in the local military paper, every base has one. Looking for guys that want to roll no gi 10th planet style !!!! You will get guys to hit you up. And I will bet some guys good enough to push you!!!
Good luck bro.
The best no gi guys in the world are ranked in gi bjj. They're not ranked in no gi. LOL. I'm telling you bro, get some mat time, even if it's with the gi. Then see if anyone wants to train no gi with you. Even if it's just to put some reps in. Some mat time is better than no mat time my good man. Like I said, I hope it all works out for you.
If you're starving and you prefer apples to oranges, you're still going to eat the orange if that's the only thing available at that time. Get me? Take what you can for now.
Gerrit, Do what Eddie did when he was training with a gi on. Wear a gi but don't use your opponent's gi against him. This will make you an even better fighter.
Eight years ain't so bad buddy. I started way back in 94 at the Gracie Academy around the same time Eddie started training at Machado. Almost 18 years and I am still a white belt. If you want a black belt all you have to do is join one of those belt programs and you'll get your black belt, might know how to fight, but you'll have a black belt. Besides, with no gi you wear no belt anyways.
I've had a million fights working in clubs and never lost one with my little ole white belt. When you get right down to it that's really what it's all about IMHO.
From a WHITE BELT for LIFE
