are you finishing an omoplata 90% of the time? that's pretty impressive. i feel like i have a pretty decent omoplata, but i am definitely not getting a 90% finish rate. or are you talking about a specific situation on the video?
griffin, you did a great job. i couldn't watch the first video for some reason, but the last 2 matches looked great! looking forward to getting together with you sometime.
Yes. At 1:15 in the first match. Griff is doing everything right. That's the way we have all been shown to finish for years and years. Controlling with the arm closest to the opponent. The problem is, as you can see, Griff has a hard time controlling. It's basically the one arm vs the opponents whole body. That makes it very hard to control IMO and as you can see Griff's opponent fought out of it.
What I do different is control with my far side arm, this makes my body weight involved in controlling him also. I use my arm closest to my opponent to chalk the hip or knee and then I butt scoot away (even if it's 10 times), which in turns breaks my opponents posture completely till they collapse on the mat. Makes for an easy finish from there.
Does that makes sense?
Prof. Jeremy Arel showed me this about 8 months ago and I have seen a huge increase in my finishes from there. I never control with the near arm anymore for the traditional way we have been taught or even the jiu claw way. Once you feel the difference you won't go back.
Beautiful performance Griff, very entertaining, especially watching you go from RG to the marcelotine, that was super sweet, keep the vids coming! :)
i will have to play around with it some this evening. i have been playing with a kinda modified perp jiu claw that is working great for me. inspired by cyborg's shoulder guard. anything that will bump up the omoplata finish percentage i am in favor of.
me, bobby, scott, and herzog all exchanged omoplata finishing theories and ideas during the leg lock camp. it was great.
Yeah. I thought I had a decent omo, then I realized, on who? Fukers where strait standin up, beast limpin, and avoiding the counter triangle. During our little session Mc mentioned i took everything and have already seen improvement. Start in full omo on some dude who is strong at escaping it and go full speed. Start over after any loss of control or escape.
Would love to see your tricks as well Jon. Helio Soneca and Adriano Lucio showed me similar tricks.
Zog's trick has helped tons. Reach under their ass, across the hamstrings and grab high up on the far thigh and actually pull him on top of you. Then its two quick hip adjustments to a super tight posish.
We could get to jiu claw well. But higher level athletic guys were creating scrambles and we were wasting what needs to be a very dominant position.
I'll ask Jeremy when he was goin to make that video. Hopefully soon.
