griffin, you did a great job. i couldn't watch the first video for some reason, but the last 2 matches looked great! looking forward to getting together with you sometime.
Yes. At 1:15 in the first match. Griff is doing everything right. That's the way we have all been shown to finish for years and years. Controlling with the arm closest to the opponent. The problem is, as you can see, Griff has a hard time controlling. It's basically the one arm vs the opponents whole body. That makes it very hard to control IMO and as you can see Griff's opponent fought out of it.
What I do different is control with my far side arm, this makes my body weight involved in controlling him also. I use my arm closest to my opponent to chalk the hip or knee and then I butt scoot away (even if it's 10 times), which in turns breaks my opponents posture completely till they collapse on the mat. Makes for an easy finish from there.
Does that makes sense?
Prof. Jeremy Arel showed me this about 8 months ago and I have seen a huge increase in my finishes from there. I never control with the near arm anymore for the traditional way we have been taught or even the jiu claw way. Once you feel the difference you won't go back.
