Chips. Greatest cop duo from 1977-1983. Eric Estrada is dreamy.
Well personal attacks aside...
The initial problem was that he posted a video that know one respected and some people feel that because he isnt a brownbelt he isnt allowed to do that. He also isnt a moon head and probaby hasnt read the affiliation package sent to all moon heads to learn that rule.
There have been other instances where it is broken, or another example would be the putting the main logo on the mats thing thats on the moon head facebook page
Is it possible to publicly post the affiliation package rules on a thread in the forum?
Also add in the unwritten rules like dont insult Zog or goats. (its hard to tell from text but the very last part was sarcasm)
The initial problem is that a whitebelt posted an instructional. That's gonna get flamed on any site. And if this was shown by a guy claiming he was a black belt, the video would still have been critiqued anyway.
He didn't post a "what do you think?" video. We get plenty of those. Sometimes we like. Sometimes it's no good. Sometimes we say it needs work. And everytime, the poster of the video appreciates the feedback. It's not about whether or not he's allowed. Sure, technically he's allowed. But at the same time, for a guy showing that much interest in being ranked and affiliated with 10th planet, he showed total disregard for the rules.
Then the problem worsened when this was brought to his attention and he remained defiant. This could've been fixed with a simple, "My bad, I didn't know the rules." Or, "I just wanted feed back, I wasn't looking to invent anything. I just thought this was cool." Any semblance of humility and respect could've ended this. Instead, he remains defiant and disrespects a highly regarded and loved member of the same clan he supposedly wants to be a part of? What the?
And Zog's right. There's a reason the rule exists. At the present time it looks like a bad move. Steaks are delicious. Cake is delicious. But just because two different kinds of food taste good doesn't mean they taste good together. That move is just a mish mash of two techniques from highly regarded martial artists and he threw in some lockdown for the 10th planet love. The principles are solid. But they don't exactly mix and he also missed pretty big details that Marcelo and Ryan touched on.
Like I said, any sign of humility could've fixed this. Instead, he showed that he's basically an asshole who's only interested in himself.
In Mr Herzog's defense....

Just saying
So for future situations (cause this will likely happen again), would it be better just to say delete the thread then send the offender a message to pull the video and not to post those types of things again. These threads have gotten kinda out of hand.
Just trying to think of a solution so we dont end up with a silver headed Zog :)
The rap sheet is old news and has been talked about before.
Most recently in a post about my 5 year hiatus from competition involving a prison stay.
My record currently consists of: 1 Felony-2 for Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer and 1 Misdemeanor-3 for Possession of Marijuana.
Any other alleged reports are hear say mishandled by media and if you are truly interested in my story I invite you to read any and all public records from the Indiana Courthouse located in Indiana, Pennsylvania -- Those reports will give you a more raw story of the IUP Incident Report.
Each member from this website I personally train with is already familiar with this report.
Also. As mentioned by another member. The Police claimed I was a black belt in karate, or something. Each media outlet had their on spin on the tale. Some even being kind enough to answer my request to report "I train in a Brazilian Martial Art" is what they decided would be marketable and not infringe on my request.
Though Chris Herzog continues to claim he was trying to explain the rules to me. Eddie himself said that since I am not affiliated, this rule does not apply to me. Even if this rule doesn't apply to me. Most will realize my intention were never to offend, but to offer ideas.
Chris Herzog, if you feel that me questioning if you compete is disrespectful. I am sorry. Personally, if I cannot view competition footage of an instructor or live material of an instructor. The priority of studying their material is diminished.
Chris Herzog, if I credited you with banter that actually came from other members. I am sorry.
Keep in mind. Rulers of the realm. You all are an accumulation of the people you surround yourself with.
If the people around you are carrying on in a way that seems unnecessary to you and you do not step in.
You too carry some of the blame.
I assume what you find condescending is the very 1st paragraph you quoted.
I'm basically saying, I'm sorry if my opinion offend you. That could be viewed as condescending.
I do not argue your view.
Though if you find the 2nd paragraph you quoted from me to be condescending. I argue that it is not.
Chris Herzog should be represented by himself. If my reaction to him is an accumulation of other members banter.
That is not his responsibility. Though unfortunately Chris Herzog was the only negative energy I respected enough to acknowledge.
In my final paragraph I'm implying that instructors bear some responsibility for the actions of their students.
If I think you are a troll, you'll know I think you are a troll.
I don't feed the trolls.
The good and bad thing about human behavior is that it is not static.
It is ever changing. One day you can be a troll and another day you can be a human being.
since every other person seems cant seem to keep their comments to themselves, heres mine. james fucked up and you guys handled it wrong. if you don't think you handled it wrong did just explain why theres 30 pages on this topic. if you read more than a page of this or made a comment you need to stop right now and do 300 hindu squats to burn off all the unnecessary energy you have. myself included for tuning in like it was the real housewives of atlanta or something. put a sticky with forum rules like every other forum in existance, and handle business in private and not make a firery road side crash spectacle out of it. and the chip gerber references made me lol.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UecRfBJ2LBM Trolling would imply I am in some way kidding, I truly believe you are full of shit.
That's part of his prob, he thinks it's trolling and that we are not serious. This kid seems to be looking for some kind of parenting that he will not find here among the grown folks. Move along and don't stop by any 10th Planet schools. People like you James are not wanted here.
Holy crap did this get ugly. James, my advice would be to humble up. When I first joined the forum I posted a video of a technique I was working on and got basically the exact response you did, from pretty much the same people. Bobby Rivers said it'd get more credit if I was crushing in comps with it, Herzog said no vidoes below brown, etc. I immediatly posted my apology because I really didn't know, and everyone responded with smiley faces and well wishes. It's on the lower ranks to cede to the higher ranks in situations like this. All of us 10P Ronins want to contribute, but there is a standard way and format to use so that we don't sully the overall system by publicly sharing videos of techniques that haven't been vetted. Even if the technique is solid the format for submission stays the same. This whole thread would have had an entirely different tone if your first response would have been, "Oh, crap. Sorry guys, didn't know!" after Brandon Woosely first told you of the rule.
Another example was a recent thread where Brian Debes described a technique and I asked for a video. He responded with the video rule.

2-3 years ago is hardly "old news".
I didn't claim anything, I told you what the rules are. Eddie did say you are not affiliated, however, if you inquired about the ranking system and had any plans of being ranked in the system it would subject you to those rules. Clearly this is something you will now never have to worry about.
Again you ask for criticism and you received it, then acted childish in return. Don't come in here and shit on my floor and try to convince me its an apple. I'm not the one that posted that technique that ignores the actual philosophy of the lockdown and its clinching based system, you did. If you don't understand that you clearly don't understand the system, this is not a shot, its a fact.
You show your level of maturity by trying to distract those from the holes that where pointed out by trying to discredit someone else. Thats not the response of someone just trying to offer ideas, thats the sign of insecurity. There are old videos of me competiting as well as a bunch of info on the internet of my accomplishments, I don't need to justify it to you.
It’s not a "maybe" or an "if" that you credited me with someone else "banter" you DID. I didn't say any of that stuff and you damn well know it. You lied and said shit that no one else posted as well. You can't confuse posts that never existed.
The fact that you of all people are trying to give me a lesson on responsibility and how I should be responsible for others, is a damn joke.
When someone is sincere with an apology it doesn't come with conditions. James you are as transparent as a window, your bullshit won't fly here.
Ok ok ok, so all the talk so far about the tech not working has been just that, talk. Here is a kid at gracie worlds this year trying to hit me with a double bridge while I had head and arm. You can see for yourselves what happens. Db is at 1:18.
This is me shutting even your technique down with in comp. proof. Enjoy.

Science!!!! and bro who do i need to talk to about the logo making noise and spinning and shit.
Here is the guys email azncel1585@hotmail.com
Just hit him up.
i don't understand how you can say that since he just opens his legs and leaves your right leg free without trapping it with his left. the marcelo/hall videos involve keeping that leg trapped either with the inside or outside leg.
its almost like telling someone their rubber guard doesn't work because you passed before they could get you in closed guard.
The no hands pass is there for that. This was in response to James video. I would be a straight db to argue with Ryan and Marcelo. This kid played, basically, what James showed. Only difference was me not letting him establish lockdown first, but that doesn't matter since in James video he released the lockdown.
i guess from my view it doesn't look like that is what he was trying to do, but if he was it wasn't properly executed.
anywho, it doesn't sound like we're going to agree on that. all good.
I get what you're saying. It's not exactly what James demonstrated. In the video the guy bumped, but he didn't block the knee. But either way, what James showed isn't quite what Marcelo or Ryan showed either. The details that James missed are pretty crucial. For one, you don't block the leg, you chop while you bump to give you a bit more momentum and a bit more umph behind the knee block. Two, if your opponent's leg is posted out, you have no first bump to begin with. The whole process is rendered useless. At the very least James could've mentioned this like Ryan did.
IMO, for no gi, I'm not sure how practical that would be though. Fortunately for me, leg out is how I play head and arm to begin with so there's no bump there. But if he were to bump and "block my leg" my leg the way he demonstrated, I don't see anything that would prevent me from just hopping over the hand and posting out. Gi guys don't usually play a clinch based game and so their habits are to post on their hands so I get why that would work in some instances. Since I learned only the clinch based game, I don't look to base with my hands as a first option. I look to post on my head, legs, and elbows. Only let go of head and arm as a last resort. I was taught to maintain the clinch unless you had no choice. That first bump would be money with a gi grip on the knee. I'm sure it's good for guys who play head and arm with the knee in tight like that. But in no gi, I don't see anything stopping me from just following the momentum and hopping over the hand and post my leg out. Or if my weight is going over my shoulder, leg out, post on head or just flare out my elbow.
Now let's say I'm trying a no hands pass and I don't post my leg out in time and I DO have to post on my hand. Let's say he got both his underhooks back. By the time that happens my leg's gone and you're not getting that lock down back. And so again, his instructional fails to address all issues. The pieces work great individually for sure. But I don't think they mix well.
Lots of things work against white belts. But I'd be willing to wager that every single purple on this site would nullify that series as it was demonstrated whether by preventing the first bump, denying the lockdown recovery, or just straight smashing through that half guard as soon as the lockdown was release.
The technique Marcelo showed was a THG teck where you keep one elbow in the mix to prevent getting smashed. Ryan showed a bump to a sweep. James thought the two mixed together with a dash of lockdown. Again, I don't believe they mix well. And they for sure don't mix well with the lockdown flow.
Not saying I can't be proven wrong. Not saying it's never worked and will never work again. I'm not even saying it can't be improved upon to make it high percentage. Just saying, as of right now I see more problems than solutions in that series and I can't see myself adding it into my game when I already have way better proven options.
fair enough. i suppose i was thinking of the overall idea of the technique itself rather than considering whether or not he covered all the pertinent details.
oh ya, guys will still post out for sure. when i do it i pretty don't much expect to get the sweep, it is a gift if i do. when i don't get the first bump as a sweep it is very rare that i don't get either (1) the sweep back to the left or (2) closed guard. at the very least i will either regain better posture in half-guard or get my near side underhook.
alright, i was assuming people have at least some basic traditional-half strategies once they have the near side underhook (or both). maybe i shouldn't have done so.
in any case, once people started getting hip to my lockdown i have found great success between traditional-half and lockdown. once i understood the intricacies of bridging and traditional-half posture i realized "dayum! i see why people are still teaching it or at least why helio soneca's game is so badass."
thanks brohemian rhapsody
Oh you assumed correctly. I love lockdown, but I also love playing trad half to get to all sorts of fun guards. I only really play lockdown if I've been flattened out. Friggin great series for so many options.
But the point of James' video was an "instructional" on an alternative way to get your double unders back to play lockdown. So my point was that even if he did manage to get his double unders back, the likelihood of reestablishing the lockdown is very low. So in the end, the whole video falls apart. Like I said, as individual techniques they're great as demonstrated by MG and Ryan. But mashed together with lockdown in play it's dysfunctional.
