at home
Seeing as though im currently not part of a gym at the moment due to the fact these BJJ instructors aren't fans of the 10th planet system I was curious if any you guys have any ideas on some conditioning workouts I can do at home to prepare for competition.

nothing can compensate for rolling time. and nothing can compensate for reps. but you can make your stamina as best as it can be. circuit training with high reps and high intensity. lots of running. core training big time. and a ton of stretching. then watch a bunch of MTS and youtube instructionals.
but most importantly, find yourself a better gym.
GL man!

Thanx I can get mat time just hard to find people with any knowledge of 10th planet but on the upside I do have a good friend that trains at 10th planet Sherman he will be down next week and he's hoping to put everything together to open a hotbox here in our area so this at home idea is just to keep busy until the plans fall into place!

yeah I trained at a gym for 5 months before I traveled and got to train at 10p vista. afterwards I was like whoa, i need to leave this place and find somewhere else to train. it didnt even compare to 10p vista. 5 months of wasted drilling.
i dont know what the landscape is out there but best advice is to just try every gym around man. most places will give you one free class. goodluck on that hot box! they just opened one up in philly and its rockin over here man

When I started to show interest in no-gi it eventually lead to me being asked to leave my old system... :(
I do 2 things for conditioning
1) kettlebell circuits where there is active rest excersises. I can swing the 40 lb kettlebell around for 30 min without stopping so in bjj I can toss 40lbs of full body strength at you without ever tiring.
2) body weight circuits where we do 10 excersises as hard as you can for 30 seconds each with a 1 min break after the 3rd min. There are no weights used so you can push yourself hard, you want to go so hard you throw up everytime.

Rhadi Ferguson and JC Santana have some great circuit programs specifically for grappling conditioning, and I'm also a big fan of "The Grappler's Toolbox" by Scott Sonnon. The DVDs are pricey, but there are enough clips up on Youtube that you can Frankenstein together a good program.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the input I get from these posts and as far other gyms in the area there's only 3 around that have a jiu jitsu program and in all 10th Planet is frowned upon so that's not even an option but there is a big interest in it among there students. If a 10th Planet gym was here I know dam well it would be big and as far as a hotbox goes I'm sure when it happens it will be posted here for all of you to see!

I can fully understand old school instructors not accepting the 10p system, that is what a group of us ran into in Effingham, IL. so 2 days a week we would do it there way and 2 days a week we did it 10p way out of my garage. In time we grew a little bigger and a few more people, then got a bigger location and got mats and started training and drilling what we wanted to drill since there is no 10p gym in our area. Best thing I can tell you is, they are 100% right, you need to drill and get your reps in, TONS of reps, 5 hours a day isnt enough. We pushed to 5 days a week training. You can do tons of conditioning, but need to build that muscle memory or in a tournament the 10p system will be way more work then how easy that eddie makes it look. its doing it thousands of times. I'd say get his books, his dvd sets, this website, youtube, and spend hours researching, then get a good group of friends and spend hours drilling it, and you will then begin to scratch the surface. It will become a lifestyle and I'm very grateful to be able to do it and learn from 10p.
