Also, has anyone got a list of the 10P brown belts?
If you're a brown belt in BJJ then you're automatically a brown belt in 10thpjj too
Training is the criteria. I don't think there's an actual list of the brown belts but I think somebody is working on a "family tree"
But surely someone must have a list?
The reason I ask is because a guy local to me is claiming to have just got a 10p brown belt but not only was he a white belt 2 weeks ago, he's also never competed or had a bjj instructor.
ha ha ha 2 week brown belt, that puts BJ to shame.
No, no list my friend. Time spent, loyalty to the system, ability as an instructor, comp record can and are all factors. A persons ability to memorize a list holds little or no weight IMHO.
As far as this gentleman you mentioned... I'm sure you've figured him out for yourself ;)

A brown belt is the culmination of years and years of getting your ass kicked, fighting injuries, and sacrificing friends
and family stuff to train. It's not as easy as sending in a YouTube.

This is a formal oppology to Alder. Sorry for reading your message wrong and will take full blame for it and appologise to you and Eddie and the rest of the 10th planet members if I brought anyone in disrepute.
Oh. And by the way, real men don't beg for belts. They know where they stand on the totem pole and accept their belt when their teacher decides. In fact most guys who ask for belts are usually up to something.

1. I'm not aware of you ever competing in a real BJJ tourney. Am I right?

There is no doubt that u lead your students to believe that u have been doing BJJ for 13 years and have passed your brown belt grading under eddie bravo. As someone who has put in the time/effort/money to learning from a real instructor and earning my belt I'm seriously concerned that this sort of thing is bad for the sport. Now, it may be that you've been training hard and are sparring well (I don't know) but white to brown? Really? Yes cape town is remote but you've had a BJJ school within 20 mins for the last 5 years so there's no excuse.
This is an open forum, and if any of my 5 assumptions above are wrong feel free to correct me. I'm passionate about the art and want nothing more than to maintain the standards of belts. 10P is growing fast and has many great bjj guys - I just think 10P's integriry needs to be maintained and the time and effort of its belts not be undermined, especially as its probably the most furtive and imaginative side of sport bjj right now.i
Anyway, I hope that any confusion can be cleared up and we can all get on with teaching and growing the art.

Gary is one of the main anti-10th planet guys here in South Africa. He is continuously talking bad about the style...just a thought.
Gary is entitled to his opinion, and it doesn't effect the integrity of the 10th Planet System. What the real issue entails is clearly Hanno has misrepresented himself to Eddie (regarding his BJJ credentials) and to his students and the public as a 10th Planet instructor, affiliation (in the process) and as a 10PJJ Brown Belt (pending). When clearly this is NOT the case, there was no "misunderstanding". Just a thought.
Perhaps part of his "anti-10th Planet" opinion is based on the fact that he has a POSER next door to him claiming the 10thP system. I don't blame him. If that was my experience with the 10thP I would hate it, too. Dude is basically stealing money off his table.Quote:

Hanno makes no money from it and the little that does come in from the school goes straight back into the school. Are you aware that Hanno told Eddie and Alder he was a BJJ Black Belt?? And Eddie asked him 3x if this was the case, and all 3 times he made it clear to Eddie he was a BJJ Black Belt. When Eddie found the truth (that Hanno was indeed NOT a BJJ Black Belt, and had no rank in BJJ at all) he sent this message to Alder in case anyone asked about him.
"Hanno Vermeulen is not affiliated with 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu. Hanno Vermeulen is not a 10th Planet Brown Belt and has never been ranked in the 10th Planet System. In 2009, Hanno Vermeulen inquired about affiliation, but was denied for specific reasons I wont make public at this time."
Every since Hanno was "denied" he kept flying the 10th Planet Flag on his website (up until yesterday), and implied his Brown Belt was "pending" (which is the rank BJJ Black Belts come into the system until they learn it) when it was indeed NOT pending, is was denied.
You can continue to defend your teacher, or you can internalize all this info and realize that he is actually a fraud who has conned, and burned you. It happens to a lot of good and intelligent people and is hard to accept, it happened to me early in my martial arts journey. You're the one who has to look in the mirror every morning and ask yourself, "am I being honest with myself", and then live with the decision.

Hanno promised to show me the email from Master Eddie stating that he indeed passed his brown belt and also his JJJ black belt certificate. Apparently he deleted the email from Master Eddie and cannot find his BBelt certificate......... Enough said
I am very embarrased and can only ask that you forgive me for my errors !!
