It's how I break it
Nice! I was just using the twister side pass, or Marcelo pass, but now I'm going to play around with this for a bit. :)
That was awesome, I really liked when he went through several techniques real quick that was cool
First of all, I loved this technique. I thought it was definitely one of the better lockdown passes Ive seen. My question.. When he "swings the unit in".. Isnt that sort of setting yourself up for a meathook, carny, flying anything.. Or if his hands are still clasped behind your head.. wouldnt that meathook be turned into rubber guard very quickly? And that isnt be asking in a pretentious way.. I am legitimately asking due to the fact that I dont know all the small details that go into the system like the higher ranks.
I'm not saying that Rener's moves won't work - they will - but you are right about the bottom player having the option to attack. Notice that when the guy on top swings his leg in, he pulls the guy on bottom to his hips - which is exactly where the guy with the lockdown wants to be. You can attack a lot easier on your hips. Since one leg is trapped underneath the opponent, a carney or a meathook are probably the best options from here for the guy on bottom.
Better yet, why wait for the top player to swing his leg in. If the guy on bottom overhooks his opponent's right arm (the guy in the video does not take the overhook) he can move from the lockdown to the super stomp, and from the super stomp go straight to the meathook or maybe even a gogo plata.
Shigeki can easily go straight from lockdown to the meathook but that's Shigeki.
It's going to give Lockdown users a harder time now (similar to once wrestlers figured out how to ground and pound traditional jitsui guys in the guard/half guard) but it's part of the evolution of the game.
Nice techniques, can't watch an entire video of his though, just not my cup of tea.
I'm glad they are discussing lockdown. First one is just no hand pass, no need to "move the unit", still works. Second one would need to be spot on technique wise with lots of reps. I have had peeps do this thinking they were doing the full twister pass only to have me end up on top. As soon as they sit that hip I unlock, and clear that inside leg like going to dogfight from perfect doubles(fancy feet). It is really good if he lifts the leg as Rener suggest. I then use my underhook to get to mount or at worst side control. They shoulder pressure turning the head helps make this difficult for the guy on bottom but not impossible. If that shoulder pressure is weak at all, it is pretty high percent.
Pretty good stuff..
did they film that with a video camera from the 1980s? lol
These passes work great. However, if you play the lockdown often and for several years these attempts to pass aren't that strong. Lockdown is my go to game. I love the bottom and have played it since 2005. The major issue I see with most lockdown players is once they get the lockdown they straighten their legs and lie their. You have a major hold on the dude's leg. Why not use that and whip him around. He is will have a hard time attempting any pass because he can't establish base. You have 5-0 control if he tries to sit or put his shoulder pressure into you. You can bring the knee back to your belly if he breaks your lockdown. Just mini stop and lock him down again. Remember, their are other levels to playing the lockdown as with any position. That is why Eddie has been so successful with it. Just look at his match with Royler when he was still experimenting with it. How many times did Royler pass? Once or twice maybe. I don't care who I go against. I'm not worried about them breaking my lockdown once I have it on. They maybe will keep me from sweeping them and force me to go to butterflies or prison guard, but the moves shown here are no threat unless you let him dictate the pace. Just my experience :)
Not hating on the lockdown. I use it myself. Plus I don't roll with ace lockdown players all the time, but I think Invisible Collar is the toughest 10th planet based guard to break once it is locked on. Lockdown hasn't really been an issue at all for me to pass and my pass method isn't even as silky as Rener's. I personally prefer the pass Marcelo used on Eddie in their taped roll. Or using a few of Eric Paulson's dirty tricks. But mostly, I don't allow myself to get stretched out in the first place. I would really like to visit a good 10th Planet school if I ever get the money and see if my passing still works there. I haven't come across a 10th Planet player in tournaments in my weight division here in the Midwest, but I would like to just to see how my game stacks up against it.
Text book defense, although when playing nogi, the twister pass works better. The head and arm pass, the first one he showed is perfect for gi and nogi. :)
Buttock compressor, all day son!!
Not really. I also have double over hooks and you can bet I will be focusing on not letting you move down my torso.
I will agree that if you connect your hands around the ass it's damn near 100%. Which is why I will focus on not letting this happen.
yea, buttocks compressor is cool. if you clinch well with your doubles hes not getting down there though. Also like bobby said, if you get double unders im getting double overs. for me personally there are gonna be feet flying at your face if i get an overhook on the outside leg side from half anyway. twister pass is money.
Lockdown: Just when I thought I was out, He pull me back in.
When you put the key in the door, and turn it half way, you can not pull the key out... BECAUSE ITS TURNED! - Rener Gracie
This guy is full of gold.
Very nice. I love watching rener teach.
Very technical pass that will pry take alot of failed attempts without giving up to master.
It is a pretty good instructional video. That's why our system is so efficient because Eddie is constantly evolving the system to have "Counters for the counters for those counters". It's all good and for the love of Jiu Jitsu. :)
Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I would post this here.
I was just reading Jiu Jitsu Magazine Oct/Nov issue#10 and at the back they have Fabio Leopoldo showing a bunch of techniques. One is called "A counter to the lockdown" on page 82. There are step by step pics of how to turn it into a calf slicer by simply sitting up and back on the legs while on top.
Only problem is, the lockdown isn't put on properly. The lockdown has the inside leg wrapping over and the outside leg hooking under the foot. Just thought I would mention it here to see if there are people who do the lockdown that way?
But then below that, they have two more pics showing another way to unhook your foot, and in that series the guy has the lockdown put on the way I learned it.
I just went to the Eddie's seminar in Vista last week and he was going over breaking the lockdown.
Nice Techniques, nice details, will add these 2 to my game.
If i may paraphrase Kurt Osiander if you get caught with the Indian death lock "you fucked up a long time ago"
