Inquiring minds want to know. I say minds but I just mean mind as in mine. Im guessing Jean Jaques, but maybe judo peoples. Maybe a gift from a bridge troll for getting a question right? Unless Eddie made it? Ive been wondering for a while

Aliens implanted it into Eddie's brain while he was sleeping.
Did a newborn baby girl tell you that with telepathy? ;)
I know Carlson Gracie's lineage uses it, but I don't know if it traces back to Judo for sure.
The shin on the back of the head is a crucial detail that I've only seen Eddie emphasize. Plus it's setup and taken from numerous positions. Bet he learned and adapted from JJ.
My old gym used the move a lot, they came from a Judo/Sambo lineage. The major difference being that they went for the arm bar finish mid transition where as Eddie secures the deep arm hook using the move as a major transition into spider web. I have tiny hands and a weak grip, so I always opted for Eddie's variation.
Yes, I think its Sambo too.
The leg positioning is perfect and keeps your knees tight during an attempted escape. A tight hip position is only available if you dont bump onto your shoulder, creating a small gap. then comes swim move. named because it looks like you are swimming.
WOW...IM GONE. ^^^not too sure what im talking about.
Judo and Sambo-also known as Iatskevich turn after Alexander Iatskevich
Ive even seen some jap jiu jitsu guys use it. It goes way back.
It's nothing new but you rarely see it used in MMA the exact way we do it, especially once you're in spider web.

Eddie gave it the name swim move. But it has been around for years. I think eddie got it from JJM..
I am pretty sure I saw Rigan Machado teaching a similar technique in No Gi, and when I saw him doing it it came to my mind that it is like the Swim Move, but not exactly the same. Perhaps the initial concept came from Eddie's training with JJ Machado and like a lot of things, he continued experimenting until his had his own version of the way he thought it should be executed.
