Thanks for the videos, Jason. I'm working on it right now - using Ryan Hall's instructional on the 50/50 as basis.
I think Xande said it best. You gotta know how to defend and escape the position even if you don't use it in your game for offense.
That wasn't a quote, those were my thoughts. I think Xande said it best in his interview and I would add that you have to understand the position, at least how to defend and escape it. You cannot ignore a fight ending position that others are using even if you do not use it in your game.
When you learn how to use it (avoid submissions, escapes, passes, then attacks), it can be a very formidable tool.
I've been working a few back attacks from the 50/50 lately. I'm working on a way to get to twister from it. There's got to be a way. It's a fun guard!
The president of Grapplers Quest, Brian Cimmons, told me that Enrico Cocco has the best 50/50 he has ever seen. He says he has a higher percentage of finishing his opponents with 50/50 than even Ryan Hall :)
Jason,
I wasn't trying to be disrespectful, I was just confused and wanted some clarification.
I'm sure you can see how someone might mistake your post as being a direct quote from Xande in the video.
Instead of debating our thoughts on the 50/50, as we did on another thread, I thought it would be good to hear from some multiple time Mundial Champions, ADCC medalists, and well known legends of our sport.
Don't get me wrong. Posting our personal opinions here is totally valid and our debate is good and healthy, but lets just make sure that we allow these legends to also have their say and lets all do our best to not accidentally misrepresent them.
