Maybe a "Brazilian" tap?
Looks like he was just trying to get a better grip on the pants
Dude, that's exactly what I thought: "brazilian tap"
he played it smart for sure; I'm sure he knows all the skullduggery. I'm not taking anything away from Royler, he's an absolute legend.
I'll have to watch it a third time, but I thought there was another point where you see him tap quick three times on Eddie's thigh. Not sure which point of the match it was. But yeah, seemed like he tapped and maybe Eddie ignored it. Perhaps he wanted it to be very definitive for the world to see. If he didn't tap, then he really is a stud to take the punishment that he got handed to him from Eddie. Awesome match!
I don't think he would have tapped if something broke. Remember Matt Hughes trying to hit an Americana on Royce Gracie, you have to put them to sleep or break something.
The ref said before the match "don't stop until I pull you off" so even if he did tap it wouldn't really matter. Seemed like a Brazilian tap or an attempt to get a better grip on the pants. Either or..
eddie opens his eyes as if he feels a tap, i think.
Looks to me like he is possibly trying to roll/bunch up the trouser leg to get a deep strong grip to try push Eddies leg and relieve the pressure a little. :)
Whoa?!, Eddie totally opens his eyes and has a look of relief like it was over.
No.
no !
I think he was really close to submitting, and was desperately trying to get a grip on those legally enforced pants :)
He looks over at the ref while doing it and Eddie opens his eyes...but the match continued do only Royler knows I suppose.
The way that Royler's hand taps in the gif from M3 looks like it did in 2003 ( 10:55 ) but I guess you're right... Royler knows in his heart.

Given Royler's personal epic triple-legendary status and the renowned toughness of the Gracies in general (I'm thinking of Renzo-Sakuraba here), I'd argue for the parsimonious view that he was in no way tapping.
