was just curious to know if any of you guys would use the rubber guard if you found yourself on bottom in a street fight?
i would use a sweep to get back up unless im in a street fight with a jujitsu guy
if you can use rubber guard to catch someone in an armbar fast enough, you can break their arm and then worry about their friends coming to "kick you in the head". if its just one on one, i dont see why you wouldnt choose to use jiujitsu.
If its self defence and they know nothing or know lots, I would be getting he fuck out of there.
But if it was a fight, and I really didnt like them, I think that rubber guard, preferably finishing with gogoplata, would give me considerable pleasure. Thats speaking hypothetically, its not something I would be doing.
I would use it, hells yeah. Punching in a street fight with no protection on your hands is a mistake, that is a broken hand for sure! RG sets up submissions beautifully and I'm not afraid to choke a guy at all. I don't give a damn if he passes out or I break his arm. If it's one on one for sure, but one on two...I wouldn't even use jiu jitsu, I'd probably run. I'm always with friends, and most of my friends are fighters and martial artists. So we'd be the wrong crowd to fuck with anyway.
In 90% of street fights, first punch to the face wins, i avoid going to the ground in a street fight... as soon as the fight is inevitable and there's nothing you can do to avoid it, quick jab to the nose, trust me, their eyes tear up, they get all disoriented, chances are they will start swinging wildly so after the quick jab you need to shoot for a double leg and finish the fight on top however you feel is appropriate.
Tough question!!!! Does he have a weapon on him. Who's going to help him! Too many factors to consider. If you can't avoid a street fight and must fight to get away. You must end the fight fast. Dirty fighting...groin shots, throat shots, eye attacks, hair grabbing or ripping , biting are all fair game on the street. You could be fighting for your life!!! I think being in any guard could be a big mistake, a risk I would avoid IF possible. If somebody had me in their guard in a STREET FIGHT I would grab their balls and squeeze and twist until they passed out! Beat that submission Fucko!!!NO MERCY...NO RULES!
I have used it, but was at a party where a guy got drunk and fortunately I knew most everyone there or it could have turned into a stomp fest. I fell to new york and pulled London, then I backfisted him a couple of times to let him know that he should quit before I got pissed
They say every fight ends up on the ground alot of times its from a guy getting knocked out and falling there street fights can be nasty there are some dangerous people out there who may not know martial arts but just know how to fuck people up.
Yeah, street fights.. My strategy is end it as fast as possible. Thai clinch seems to be where i go first if i can get close. if not ill just throw punches. I dont really know why i have never thrown kicks in a street fight, i guess with the adrenalin i never really think about it or feel comfortable. But if i got taken down and they happened to be in my guard.. yeah rubber guard would be the first thing i do to prevent them from raining down some punishment on my face. assuming we're talking 1 on 1 with no weapons.
Don't street fight. If you are confronted by an aggressor, play cool and try to get out without a fight. If you do have to fight target the center of the body like the groin, stomach , or nose. If you are taken down and worry for your life bite or dig your thumb deep into his eye. if you are taken down and the guy is smaller or you know you can escape without having to worry about using harsh moves as fore mentioned than try a sweep and choke the guy to sleep then leave the scene. Always leave the scene.
Your best bet is to avoid a street fight if at all possible... If it is not avoidable, you do what you can to survive! I have fought "many" times in street fights and the last thing I would do is go to the ground with anyone, as long as I can dictate that part of the fight. You never know who is going to jump in, you may be fighting on concrete, etc... And the first rule to street fights is there are no RULES!!! It is all about survival! You don't know if they or one of their friends is armed (knife/Gun/knucks/club, etc...) If you are not a fighter, and even if you are, your best bet is to test your skillz in the cage or on the mats. Never the streets! If you find yourself in a situation where you have no choice, then defend yourself! But don't hold yourself to rules that don't exist on the streets! People will bite, scratch/gouge your eyes, kick/grab your balls, what ever they can do to win/survive. Be the smarter person and walk/Run the hell away, and get to live and train another day ;)
If you do have to fight target the center of the body like the groin, stomach , or nose.
Never ever hit anybody in the nose in the street the last thing you want is somebody bleeding on you hep c h i v you never know. Temple, jaw line, solar plex, live shuts people off you want to turn them off nuts and eyes are acceptable.
"Preemption is your first line of defense!" - Dave Camarillo
Choke slam to rape choke.
Keep it off of the ground, unless you are positive no one else is going to join in and stomp your head in!!!
if it were a one on one fight if i ended up on the ground i'd use rubberguard for sure, most people that dont know what is going on will start to panic even if their on top.
hold them close and chances are they wanna push away to get some swingin room.
I say, good punch between the eyes or in the nose to make their eyes water, a real good open palm to the ear, then have a field day.
they cant see and their equilibrium is screwed. wanna be mean, jab em in the throat. after the ear and eyes/nose is taken care of.
i would put them in a straight jacket ya
but i am talking about a school fight here (im only 15) so kids wont back them up, they will just watch and stand their
but on the streets, ya your ass better get up and running after u choke him out.
I have been jumped before and was able to talk the guys out of it, so I am a big supporter of using your words to diffuse the situation.
But if it ever happened where multiple guys were attacking me, I would go straight for the Kimora. A choke takes way too long to take someone out especially when there is more than one attacker. Break their arm/tear their shoulder and move onto the next one. If your on the ground getting kicked, 50-50 then heel hook and tear their knee if you can.
Haha thats fucking genious
As beautiful as RG is in 1v1, it's only good vs 1v1. You could totally be dominating a guy on the ground in 1v1, but his buddy, however unskilled in combat, gets free field goal kicks to your head/back/side. Avoid the ground in a street fight. Avoid street fights altogether. Even if you're a black belt in 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu and are a Muay Thai Kru, skill won't stop bullets, knives and it's random what type of attacker you have on your hands during an altercation. Is he armed? Does he have backup nearby? What's his mental state? Street combat isn't playtime. People die in those type of altercations. I don't want any of my 10PJJ family ending up hurt or worse on the news because of a street fight that could be avoided with using
1. Awareness: keep eyes out for things/people out of place in your environment and know when you're more vulnerable to attack ie. Dark parking garage with no other people
This is probably your most important defense and your 1st line of defense.
2. Buddy System: *not always possible, but it's just a great habit to always be with a friend. Plus isn't it more fun to have someone to shoot the shit with while doing your daily grind?*
Just having those two up makes you a MUCH harder target. So in short, the best way to defend yourself is to never get into a fight in the 1st place.
Now of course, if you've exhausted your verbal judo altercation diffusion skills in a potential fight, and physical violent is imminent.
*worst case scenario, and your "run away* option is being stifled by the environment or multiple attackers surrounding you, someone has to go down*
Eye Jab
Groin Kick
Then follow ups with w/e comes natural combat wise.
Don't stop attacking till the assailant is completely incapacitated and unable to recover/retaliate long enough for you to escape.
If you're lucky and your opponents don't have ranged weapons, take the *run away* option as soon as you see/feel an opening to get to a more crowded/safer area.
I hope that none of us is faced with that type of situation. I've been in that type of situation once. I've seen what a metal baton *the kind with the weighted ball on the end of it* can do to someone's face and skull.
if i end up in guard and ther guy has zero training im pretty sure i can zombie that hand to the grizzle
and maybe even clear the nizzle but i feel like there going to pick me up and drop me on my hizzle forshizzle
lol
+1
By training jiujitsu you are improving your grappling skills tremendously. This means you have the skill and physical attributes to keep a fight standing, on the ground or in the clinch against an average attacker who is not a submission grappler himself. Use your skills such as stepping out of the way, pummel in the clinch to get underhooks and push away and sprawl to keep your feet under you so you can bolt out of there as soon as possible. I would do that even if there is no one around since even if you "win" a street fight, there is always the chance of you getting in trouble with the law etc.. Imagine this, if you managed to not to be in a plane which crashes, you never have to worry about how to "win" in a plane crash and not die. So you not being there in a street fight, meaning you got away, you are at home with no scratches on you and no cops are looking for you to see if you breaking that guys arm or choking him unconsicois was self defence or over aggression and you do not have to deal with court process and looking over your shoulder constantly in bars to see if the guys you fought 3 days ago are looking for your with knives in their pockets, than you have truly won that fight. If fighting is not avoidable then the best option are some judo hip throws, they are simple, quick, put your opponent on the floor, drives the air out of their lungs, if done on a hard surface against someone who is not experienced in getting thrown, they inflict a good amount of damage and they still let you stay upright with the ability to run or take on another attacker.
i wouldnt.
most people dont roll solo. when people see their boys getting owned, they step in and being on your back, in control of the fight or not, is very bad juju. id do what i could to stay on my feet. if i end up on the bottom, im going to sweep and get on top and make it rain.
Just like BJJ, fighting in general is about choosing the right option for the situation at the right time. Obviously, the right option about 95% of the time is: try to diffuse the situation or just bounce. This question falls in the other 5%, though, when you can't do that. So, in those situations, again, you try to find the right decision for the situation.
For me, it's process of elimination. For example, are there multiple guys? Is anyone on my side? Unless it's 1v1 or I have very favorable numbers behind me, BJJ is pretty much out. Even then, though, if I get tackled, I'm going to defend myself, and a lot of the time, the best option for that will be BJJ, at least until I can get up. The point is, short of a 1v1 fight on carpet or grass or something, I would never try to pull RG as a goal. But in any fight, if I wound up on my back and could not get up, there's a decent chance I'd use it for a bit. I could see getting knocked down in a brawl, covering up, and one guy jumps on you. Decent chances are, if others are still fighting on the feet, nobody else goes straight for you. You use RG to defend a flurry of sloppy GnP, go for a quick sub, and then get up and either back into the feet on your feet, or hopefully, get the hell out of there.
like the other guy said
if your in the guard, fucking kimura and break his shoulder
end of fight
get up and run like hell
