Proper tatami mats (with the subfloor).
Showers.
Volcano vaporizer room ;)
A really good water filter system so you have great water to drink, and then you can discourage throw away bottles.
Showers are key. You can make everything else work.
Thanks Guys keep them coming...
Cage, Thai bags, mats, boxing ring, and nice restroom/shower area. Oh and of course a safety meeting (green) roomLOL, but seriously.
Hey Brandon having a 16ft cage and ring and a largeish matted area bags and pads and ropes and pads and gloves etc but you always forget something just nice to do it right and listening to people who train already at places everyones help will let us achieve that and provide a great place for all to train
Sticking to your set schedule is a big thing, for me anyway. I cant stand when a class is suppose to start at say 530 and Its 545 still waiting to start your class. I think that you need verified instructors in whatever you will have. For example JC is blue belt given by Eddie himself. You have to understand for me, I may not be the norm because I was in the Army and I can handle organized chaos but cant tolerate just chaos. I dont know if that makes any since but just my thoughts.
No makes perfect sense, i am a nightmare if things dont run on time and yeah totally agree with the whole having the right coaches
What everyone else said.. kind of goes with shower/restroom but like a locker room setting.. maybe with lockers people can use or just rent out for the year. Good mats for sure and fairly large mat space... ring etc.. Literally just popped into my head.. but a peg board if you have a high ceiling. I haven't seen one in years but those things are badass.
As far as weight stuff.. I would love to have in gym. A prowler.... a power rack, and platform with bumper plates. Oh and maybe a large tire.
If you had all of that.. I would practically live in your gym. Throw a desk in the corner for me to get my school work done and i'll definitely live there :P
Well there will be a large matted area, a cage, a ring, bags of all description, pads, kick shileds, cardio area with airdyne bikes and versaclimbers, treadmills, concept 2 rowers, there will be trxsystem, sledgehammers and tyres, kettlebells, a frame with chin ups dips rings wow i could go on wanna know from you guys if ive missed anything, wanna get it all covered so people are happy training at the new place and have it all at their disposal so keep the suggestions coming guys........
The most important thing for your gym is the coaching staff, you can have the best equipment in the world but without good instructors it's all a bit pointless...oh and heating.
So So agree with you, hate it when you go to train somewhere and there is nothing but ego or miserable trainers or people who think they are the toughest badasss around lol
OK so we are looking at a minimum of 7,500 sqft now and gonna have some amazing stuff in the New Place...anyone wanna add anything they would love to see in there...always good to have lots of help and ideas guys.....thanx
Wow thats an awesome set up your gonna have! I wish I lived near so I could go! Nice you got TRX and Kettlebells. They are great conditioning tools.
Since you asked might I suggest researching the possibility of maybe adding a Powerplate there too. If you don't know much about them I would suggest you try one so you can see if it's something you think would be beneficial. You can do some sick workouts on them but best of all they can enhance the results on top of what would get from your normal work-out and can potentially speed up recovery times. Due to the vibration it activates more of your muscles so you can really feel the difference in say doing a squat on Powerplate compared to a normal one. I think they are a great supplement to your normal strength and conditioning routine. They have many benefits. Downside is those machines are pricey!
Sauna
Thanx to James we have looked into a lot of the rehab stuff and that is on the list also gonna get an MVP shuttle....Kevin the 8 person Sauna is also on the list....whoop whoop...love a good sauna :)
Pamphlets with prices, schedule, and instructor names/credentials.
Basic equipment for sale on site. (Rash guards, shorts, mouth guards, ear guards, jockstraps, ankle supports, knee supports, wraps, gloves, towels)
Smoothie bar.
There's nothing more convenient than knowing that if you're short on time or if you forgot your shorts that you can just pick up a new pair on your way into the locker room and grab a quick something to eat/drink after training.
Yeah a sauna is so nice...I can't wait..will also look at having gear for sale in the reception/cafe/shop area....gona be a lot of functional training equipment.....
How about sanitation??? I think its very important to be the example and emphasize on maintaining everything clean... not just looking clean, but having the mats properly sanitized... NOBODY wants to roll on mats that have not been cleaned ..... from staff to students!!
I worked at an MMA gym for about a year that just shut down yesterday... One of the business partners pulled out, and the other guy didn't want to run it on his own.
I would say that having rigid class times and a reliable class structure are HUGE, maybe some of the most important things. I've trained off-and-on at a bunch of gyms, and that always seems to separate the great from the mediocre. I've seen moderately-talented instructors run great schools because the environment was set up so well for learning.
Weights-wise, it's hard to market traditional weights in the martial arts world, although it's catching on now. Bumper plates, a platform, and a 20kg bar are by far the best pieces of equipment you can have, but you'll have a hell of a time trying to get most people to do Olympic-style lifts. Kettlebells are a good substitute.
Thanks for the info guys...we are gonna be more geared towards functional training which will be great for athletes from all sports.....
Don't forget to install a 16+ stone meat head, it's what all gyms need!!
Seriously the place sounds great all you really need is good experienced instructors and a great atmosphere which I'm sure you'll have. Best of luck with the Facility keep us informed how it's going..
