Looked like the guy getting kicked was in two points of contact with the ground to me, but the ref might have been counting the trapped arm?
It should be legal, only 2 points (both feet) on the mat when hes getting heelkicked.
Very impressive guard, too!
Should be legal because he was standing on 2 feet, unless you count the third point of contact to be when the top guys puts his knee down on McInnnes's chest.
Looked to me like he was just trying to adjust his foot and the guy kept putting his head in the way :D
Wow, crazy.
If it were up to me, I would deem it legal but watch the hands very closely. He had gripped his hands together and they were both off the ground though when he was hitting him. Feet were the only part of the guy that was touching the mat. I think the ref made a mistake, but its understandable at the same time because that is so uncommon. Not sure you could do that from almost any other position.
Been following Andrew for awhile, the dude has some sick rubber guard highlight reels.
What a BS interruption that was legal and fucking badass...terrible on the part of that ref...sucks because he prolly would have KO'ed or TKO'ed him from there and it would have been epic.
Thats a very grey area.
Not gray at all. Damn impressive. Hope his corner fought for him.
edit: that'll certainly make someone think twice about slamming someone while in their guard.
He's clearly up off the ground
Very nice, and yes, legal.
Legal!!!
Gray is sorta my favorite color, but not really...
You can tell he's pretty comfortable in rubber guard. Probably the most comfortable I have seen for mma. Kicks once they look to posture out would be quite interesting. There would be a lot of times where they are trying to posture out like that and you could full on soccer kick them with your free leg if all that needs to be is for their hands/knees to be off the mat.
Definitely legal! To be fair to the referee though it did happen pretty quickly, and in all honesty the ref was in the best position possible. If you pause the video at 39 seconds that's the angle the ref would have seen from where he was standing, and it does look like his knee is on the ground from that angle. Since it looked like he was setting up the omoplata it was a pretty smart place for the ref to be, seeing as he could watch the free arm to stop it quick if the top guy tapped.
Sick guard work though! Someone needs to do this in One FC where they have the Pride rule set, so there is no confusion!
As long as it's not to the back of the head it should be legal. Powerful weapon for sure.
I wonder if the ref had let it go on, what would've happened. Would his opponent get KO'd by those kicks, or fall to his knees, in wich case he could no longer legally kick his head, in most organisations.
I loved this match. The first thing I thought is THIS GUY HAS GOT TO BE 10th PLANET.
Did you see how he took the guys back at the end with a standing lockdown and Rear naked choke? AWESOME!
Who said rubber guard is not used effectively in MMA!!!!???? Mckinnes killed it
Definitely legal
