Jiu jitsu changed my philosophy on life, and opened my mind to new philosophies. It gave me confidence, yet humbled me and made me a modest person. I lost plenty of pounds and dedicated my life to health because of the ideas shared within the gym. And it plain out just helped me grow and devolope as a person, not to mention gave me a hobby.
What about you guys, How did jiujitsu change your lives?

Im just glad I'm experiencing this part of the multiverse and not the one where im takin one in the ass and one in the mouth right now. Which ,apparently, we all are.
huge change!!!!! I'm 5'11 and back in July i weighed 335 I'm now down to 275 no diets just regular training and stretching. I'm also noticed a huge change in my home life in every aspect of it. i feel in more control of everything like my study's for school and just how i look at life is different.
Jiu Jitsu changed my life because it gave me a way to continue grappling out of high school. When I was younger wrestling in the Olympics was my goal and what I was striving for, but came to realize there's no way I could make a living doing so with a family. So then came BJJ and MMA. I love BJJ and there's not a day in my life I'll consider giving it up!

I wouldn't say it necessarly changed my life but it did make it just that much better.
My out look on life is way better so it is good. Its bad when my wife does a double take at my ears and says you promised that your ears wouldnt get worse. Im a much better person when Im in the gym.

first off BJJ/MMA (mainly jiu-jitsu) opened a new world for me. i never had set goals like i do now, nor ambition to really do much. i was a couch potato, a real slacker. never ate right, never exercised (since highschool), and was downright unhealthy. jj really gave me alot to look forward to, and im more than grateful. not knowing what i wanted to do with my life, i then started mma. now i know what it is i wanna do, compete, and one day teach. i really wanna compete, but my ultimate goal is to become a great teacher of the art, and have my own school one day. jj changed my outlook on almost everything.
It gave me something to pursue.. had been out of the competitive sports scene for about a year.. and that was the first time in 16-17 years... I was getting stressed out because of the drastic change. Unlike other sports I think it has a fairly systematic way to track your progress which is nice.. as well as a decent group of people with almost similar goals. Sadly recently its been tough to get serious training in which stresses me out.. but not failing out of school has taken priority :P
BJJ has definitely made me a more humble person, and has helped with any sort of ego I carried with me outside of class. Ego is always there and ready to flare up in soooo many situations, and tends to prevent you from thinking clearly. BJJ has helped keep my ego in check and as a result live a more positive life, which enhances the lives around me. I've only been training BJJ for 5 months and I am already noticing my mindset changing.
Besides the mental aspect of training, the physical benefits are all there too. Before training BJJ I was into weight lifting and was thinking of competitively body building at some point. After years of training my joints began to wear out and I had to take a step back from it. My hips are a bit messed, same with my knees, but BJJ helps to loosen them up and makes my body feel great. With regular training and stretching, I hope I can undo any damage caused from lifting.
i was a bouncer for years. Im so gratefull i was never taken down by a jiu jitsu player. The first time i rolled and the world started closing in, was a wake up call. Every thing i learned in the gym was new again, and i couldnt wait for my first comp to test my new knowledge. Just like G.I. Joe said.. "knowing is half the battle".
Not that this is necessarily relevant but seeing the ego thing reminded me of this.. a lot of the time grappling/combat sports etc.. inflate peoples ego as well lol..Quote:

Sometimes when life gets hard and your getting choked the fuck out you need someone to have your back and throw you a gi to give you that slight edge. the gi being used in the heat of battle is like popeye when he needs his spinach. Or like goku needing a senzu bean. well, regardless of the gi being used or not, jiu jitsu is the gi being thrown on life.
