Hey everyone. Just wondering how strong your arm triangle from lockdown is. What's your percentage of actually getting the tap?
25%
edit: that's if I get a full-on arm triangle with a good lockdown.
Low percentage finish for me as well, but I do notice my partner usually starts freaking out to get away from it which makes the whip up way easy.
i can sometimes finish from there... but usually use it for a reversal to a finish.
When I find myself there it is high percentage.
Very low submission rate. I usually use it to transition or sweep.
use it to go the back. i don't even try to finish it normally. takes too much energy and i am a weakling.
ive found once ive gotten it synched up right, i can let go of my lockdown and move around to get either a better position to carry on with, or to finish. it wont work with advanced guys unless they get too focused on the arm triangle, which is unlikely. but it works as a nice distraction for most guys :)
I squeeze the shit out of a med ball when I have down time trying to go closer to that Marcello 02' Squeeze.
I aggree. I dont finish well from there, but it helps me set up Homie Control and go to the back. every now and again though.....

I very rarely finish here as well...it seems to me like its all strength and no leverage. I dont like burning my arms out on low percentage submissions. I usually use it to take the back or go deep hook to swim move.
I agree with vj. This is a submission mostly based on strength without leverage. I used to find myself in this position a lot and would submit some lower belts but never an upper belt or a much stronger guy. I don't think this is a position you should focus on. Instead try to sweep or go to the back.
Always sweep, keep the arm triangle, pass, then step off to the side on my toes and lean on em for added pressure, finish. Sometimes i impale or chimp, depends on the day.
If i can get the arm triangle locked in though, i will hold it no matter what position i'm in until i can sweep/pass then finish.
What Brandon said above. Funny, I actually taught this in my 10th Planet class last night.
However, I still squeeze my knee at night and it has helped me to finish arm triangles, darce, anacondas from all positions. Obviously being on your back and fighting against gravity doesn't help the cause but with a stupidly strong squeeze, you could be in outer space and finish it.
It depends on the size of the person, if they're much bigger than me it's rare I've gotten a finish but someone my size or smaller I'd say I get it 50% pf the time.
70% finish rate its all about having a strong lockdown and straightening out the body
I finish the arm triangle from lockdown maybe 60-70 percent. I extend the lockdown while putting the squeeze on the choke I find that definitely makes the choke more effective. The results do vary by body types and success rate goes down the larger the opponent is. You definitely need a good squeeze to finish the arm triangle from bottom.
Anyone know a few "squeeze power" exercises?
i go for the arm triangle from the bottom to sweep or when i'm trying to pass on top. i just like the control it gives but low % finish until position changes.
I remember Eddie saying in his DVD that arm triangle from stoner control is a great choke.
Remember that Eddie used that move to choke out some Japanese fighter? It's on his DVD. Also, Einstein shows that move in the All Stars DVD.
You just gotta put in time to develop your squeeze. I'm not saying mine is death, but I've worked at it , and I tap guys from to time even when they're defending. Like Eddie says in the latest MTS episode (18) You need to squeeze 100% every chance you get at a rep, or you just wasted your time.
do you think you could get a better chance to finish the bottom arm triangle with full guard and the same side foot in the hip instead?
If i ever end up in guard w/ the arm triangle and have trouble finishing, i slide off to one side, bringing my forearm down on their artery instead of the back of their neck so all the pressure is there, shift my hips so that my dick is pointing into their side, and finish.
Once i get there its pretty much 100%...much stronger than the same choke with your hips lined up with theirs...get to the angle, attack the artery, and kill.
angle. it seems to always come back to that.
i don't like to finish the arm triangle from the bottom against a guy who is bigger and stronger than me. i might catch him, i might not. i much prefer to use the hold to switch to a more dominant position. if i can get on top while i still have him locked in, now i'm looking to finish.
against a guy my size or smaller, i might go for the kill from the bottom.
very low for me as well but I use it to sweep and finish from on top.
Exactly ..Set bars for yourself. You may not tap them that day, or that week, but if work at it and you get the tap later.. you know you're squeeze is getting better.
Thanks guys.
The way I work on my squeeze is to take a medicine ball between my knees, squeeze the hell out of it cross my feet (im short so its not so easy) then while you are squeezing the med ball whip up and over, then back to center extend legs, then whip up to the other side. Keep my hands t-rexed. I whip up and imagine trying to throw the ball across the room with my hips, up and over hard and fast over and over. I think it helps.
Like anything the % is higher if he dosen't see it comming. If he thinks you messed up and left him an americana on the far side he'll be too focused on tapping you to see or defend it. It's all in how well you sell it but miss your timing and you'll get caught.
