From what I have heard its mostly praying mantis kung fu, aikido and wing chun with an emphasis on trapping hands.
It's a mixture of all the martial arts; the most efficient and most effective technique for the situation. Starting from weapons base down to some ground fighting. But really no focal point on any one. Jack of all trades but master of none kind of system.
its mostly the same stytem and structure as mcmaps
Army does have a combatants program, the local army base's instructor trains at our school. The team comes in and trains with us sometimes before they fly out to other bases to compete. I have worked with there 145 and under guys. You have to make the team. The regular training the soldiers go thru isn't great. Very basic stuff.
I have read a bunch of the books written by Richard Marcinko. He is the guy that formed seal team 6. From what I have seen very little time was spent with hand to hand stuff. They are trained to be experts in any weapons they touch. Edged included. In one of the books he talked about Steven Segal being one of his guys........ and he was way down on the list of tough guys in the unit. He was best with his language skills. I kinda got the feel if you made it to seal teal 6, not alot of time was spent on hand to hand stuff because it was pretty much a given you were a badass !!!! Besides they are to skilled to play around with kids games!!!! lol. They would just double tap you between the eyes or plunge a tanto edged folding blade into your throat..... Great books he has several out, pick them up for some good reading.
I know he played a Navy Seal in a few movies but didn't know he actually was one. That's new.
They use guns. If one of them is attacked hand to hand there buddy shoots them.
I thought of Steven Seagal running through the desert, front kicking Taliban in the face when I read that Connor. Haha
lol
ya I've actually heard the gracies helped implement a good chunk of the hand to hand program for the army after the original UFC's aired. From what I've seen the program looks pretty basic though.
As for the seals I've heard there is a lot of weapons training, manuevering drills, room clearing... CQC with weapons, beachwork... But for the life of me I can't find any info on hand to hand combat.
In the beginning, only two seal teams existed. Team One on the west coast and Team Two on the east coast. Somewhere around 1984 a new group in Virginia called themselves Team 6 to confuse Soviet analysts. They were disbanded in 1987 and soon became the Naval Special Warfare Development Group or DevGru (under Richard Marcinko). If you ever get the pleasure of speaking to one of these guys, they simply call themselves the boys from Dam Neck (the training area in VA.). The term "Seal Team 6" will change again soon. It's only used to identify a small few and is part of a regular roation of name changes. There are Teams One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Seven, Eight, Nine, and Ten. After several years with one of these "white" teams that operate under government acknowledgment, a Seal can apply for a "black" team. That team operates independantly and near completely outside of the government. DevGru goes where the U.S. Government has no official presence.
What the hell you know about anything? You're just a troll who dosen't train and makes up multiple accounts to talk shit to people. Copying and pasting something you google dosen't make you smart. Carefull about this troll people he does background checks for pics and videos for anyone he comes across.
Well what you don't know could fill a warehouse fool! Great contribution as if people give a shit about some loser trolls opinion. Back under your bridge!!
ok I'm sorry everyone this is the last time I'ii talk shit (truth) to this troll. After stalking me across various threads we're even now. I've humiliated him enough. No more shit talking from me about this anymore.
First, it is my understanding that there is no official hand to hand training program for SEALs. Because each team trains and functions as a separate group they are free to hire and employ experts to train with as their operational needs dictate. So each team can and does have different systems to draw upon and no one thing is "official". So it is be a mixed bag.
For example, my teacher, Paul Vunak was contracted to teach his own personal version of JKD (Progressive Fighting System's the RAT) as the "official" h2h for around four years with SEAL Team 6 in Virginia Beach (I believe it was from 87-91). He left a core of JKD inspired intructors that he certified behind when he left (Pat Bagley, Pat Tray, and Frank Cucci I believe) to carry on the JKD centered training..

Frank Cucci old vids on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68pNX7YkbIM
There have been other groups and systems used. SCARS by Jerry Peterson was taught at BUDs and for awhile was kinda "official". It was heavily inspired by San Soo kung fu I believe. It was better than karate I guess, but... yech...

SAFTA, (a SCARS knock-off) was taught somewhere along the line,,, I love the mustache in this youtube video and he DID train Jon Hess in UFC 5 :p

I know that Duane Dieter has been teaching SEALs his system for a while now. I seem to remember that his system was based off wing chun concepts, but I could be wrong.

One guy even told me they did Military style Krav Maga in his team.
As said before, no SEALs normal operational duties regularly require them to fight h2h. It is a confidence builder, warrior mentality training skill and a necessary component of survival for wtshtf. I had a ex-SEAL tell me once that he only ever had to use his h2h skill when he was being covered by a fully armed team.
p.s. Steven Seagal was only a SEAL in the movies...
But if it was a street fight im sure he would have poked Belfort in the eye or something.
YES..... Steven Segal was a real Seal. But like I said he wasn't there for his fighting skill. Dude speaks like 6 languages. Richard Marcinko said what made him a key member of the team was covert opperation on the phone. His language skill were so good, he would be on the phone speaking in the native language (whatever 1 of the 6 he knew, that was needed at that time) and he spoke it so perfectly, no one could tell him from a native. Marcinko spoke of him speaking chinese so well one time, the person on the phone thought they grew up in the same province. So no matter what kind of cartoon character Segal is today, At one time he was a bad ass !!! lol.
My pick for a Marcinko book, is Green Team. But there all pretty freaking good.
which book did you read about Seagal in Conner?
As a 7th dan in Aikido maybe Seagal is a badass, but, I am sorry Conner, Seagal was never a Navy SEAL, in fact he was never in the military. He played an ex-SEAL in the Under Seige movies... I have read several times where Seagal makes vieled claims that he killed for the CIA on top secret missions and such but have no reason to believe they are anything other than b.s.
Marcinco must have been joking around or something... and don't forget that except for Marcinco's first book and his business book, everything else he ever wrote was fiction.
p.s. It looks like he does mention Seagal once in his novel Red Cell when he says, "On my way north on Avenue of the Stars half a dozen chattering teenage girls, with $100 dollar jeans with holes in the knees, po' boy sweaters and imitation boondockers asked if I was Steven Seagal. No, I said, smiling, I really DO kill people for a living."
Hate to burst your bubble Jimmy Olson, but if Segal wasn't a seal, you may want to get ahold of the father of Seal team 6...... Richard Marcinko and tell him that. He goes into detail about Segal in his book The Real Team published in 1999.......holding a copy of it in my hand right now. Read it about a year ago.
Also looking thru the books Ive read and may have to change my pick for best..... Forgot how good Rogue Warrior was and it is the first one he wrote. So may want to start with that one
He has written 15 or 16 books, I have read 6 of them so far..... But my point being, just looked thru ReAL Team again and Marcinko calls Segal a tall skinny kid that he thought would wash out everyday of Bud school. But made it thru on balls and heart and became a valuable member of the team.
The joke about really killing people was Marcinko was more a pat on the back for himself than a slam at Segal. I guess he kinda thought he was a sell out for taking the movie route. In fact I think it was a made up story by Marcinko for a funny line in his book. I'm sure no one ever misstook him for Segal since Segal 6'6 and Marcinko is
5'7 on a good day.lol.
Every biography found online doesn't even mention him being a SEAL, in fact most of them even deny the question by saying he only played one in the movies. Maybe it's a secret that only that guy knows.
Connor I hate to say it but I Really don't think Seagal was a seal. I think that guy has blurred the lines between fiction and real life.
Connor how is the name spelled in the book Seagal or Seigel? Does the book give his D.O.B? Seagal was born 4-10-1952.
Connor, are you talking about The Real Team pages 185-217 were he has an interview with Steven Seigel aka "the Indian Jew"? That guy WAS a Navy SEAL with SEAL Team 6, but he is not Steven Seagal the Martial Artist/Actor. They are just 2 different guys with similar last names. Read the chapter again and compare it to Seagal's bio for yourself.
Sorry, not trying to argue with you... it just isn't him.
Conner good buddy he was never a seal.
Nobody in this thread knows what they are talking about. Only a current or former Navy SEAL can give you the answer to your question.
then the website might not work for a little while (mysteriously), if classified info popped up on here. Im sure this website is monitored by more than one government agency. All we talk about is stuff that probably could've caused a riot back in the 30's or something. Aliens, seal training, techniques on how to break limbs and suffocate people, pre-civilization history, government corruption, drug decriminalization, spirituality by ways other than the orthodox religions, the list goes on and on.
We are lucky to live in a (somewhat free) country where this website is allowed to exist
