Army does have a combatants program, the local army base's instructor trains at our school. The team comes in and trains with us sometimes before they fly out to other bases to compete. I have worked with there 145 and under guys. You have to make the team. The regular training the soldiers go thru isn't great. Very basic stuff.
I have read a bunch of the books written by Richard Marcinko. He is the guy that formed seal team 6. From what I have seen very little time was spent with hand to hand stuff. They are trained to be experts in any weapons they touch. Edged included. In one of the books he talked about Steven Segal being one of his guys........ and he was way down on the list of tough guys in the unit. He was best with his language skills. I kinda got the feel if you made it to seal teal 6, not alot of time was spent on hand to hand stuff because it was pretty much a given you were a badass !!!! Besides they are to skilled to play around with kids games!!!! lol. They would just double tap you between the eyes or plunge a tanto edged folding blade into your throat..... Great books he has several out, pick them up for some good reading.
