question about ranking for training outside the US

Although ranking isnt the most important thing to me, I did wonder how it takes place for people training 10thP outside the US, does a student have to visit HQ after training for some time to get ranked?? Or alternatively visit a Moon that has a black/brown belt instructing who can also grade rank?? How does it work??

Im sure there is some method of doing it online but I went across to 10th Planet Riverside and trained under Sean Bollinger plus went to 2 of his seminars in the UK.

This has been covered loads of times, so I'm sure Eddie eventually needs it to be stickied....

Anyway...Here's what I gathered..

"This is how its going to work for those who are NOT enrolled in an official 10th Planet school,

You must be a premium member of the 10thplanetJJ.com website for at least 6 months. So you can have access to all the technique videos, especially "Mastering The System" is crucial for promotion.

Then you will need to post on your 10th Planet profile 10 competition wins, and in the video you must have a 10th Planet patch on your shorts, or gi pants, in every match(you can have other school patches too, share the love). To get a purple belt you must post 20 competition wins. To get a brown you must post 30 wins.

Plus you must upload 7 10th Planet technique videos., one of all the half guard techniques you know, one of all the rubber guard techniques you know, one all the twister set ups, and transitions you know, one of all the deep hook transitions to spider web techniques that you know, one of all the mount/back techniques you know, one of all the passing, and transitions you know, and the last one can be a miscellaneous video which could include anything, and everything else you know, like various chokes, x guard, 50/50 etc.

You must not teach in videos you post, you have to perform the techniques swiftly, and name EVERY position as you pass through it. No discussions, and absolutely no edits in any of the videos what so ever one continuous shot. Each technique video should be about 3 minutes, and again don't not to teach in the video, just run through the technique.


All videos must be posted on the forum so the whole association can see what you're up to. When you're ready to be analyzed just start a thread titled "[Your name here] ranking thread".

Then once your thread has been graded, you'll be notified by Eddie himself if you've earned a promotion, (or not) blue, purple, or brown.

Every promotion no matter what color will require the same 15 videos. Naturally the 5 technique videos will be critiqued alot harder for a purple than a blue, and worse so for a brown than a purple.

10th Planet head instructors that are non black belts can only rank their students to a blue belt. All Nibiru warriors that ARE enrolled in official 10th Planet schools that are run by non black belts that want to get their purple, or brown belt must be first recommended by their instructor, and only have to submit 5 technique videos to your 10thplanetJJ.com forum. Rather than having to do most of the above.

Cheers fellas. although i will hopefully be at an official 10thP school (Birmingham or grimsby, I'm just sorting out moving house and getting my shit transported at the moment) I was just curious about whether the instructors at those two schools are authorised to grade.

Both my self and Simon at Grimsby can grade up to blue at the moment

Dont quote me on this but im pretty sure that Simon at 10th Planet Grimsby can promote you to blue. But i dont think Mick at birmingham can promote you as he is only a blue himself. By my understanding you need to be a purple belt to promote people.

Thank you. my head office is in Birmingham at the moment, so logically i should move back there, but because I've lived there before I'm thinking i'd like to try somewhere more rural so it's looking like nearer to Grimsby for me. However, I was talking to my Co-Director recently who's based at the Birmingham office, he'll be paying you a visit soon. (that's if you dont mind a solicitor/lawyer/spawn of the devil, in your gym...
