Luta Livre belt translation?

Hey guys, I train at a Luta Livre gym, obviously very similar to 10pjj. Our instructor is a black belt in Luta Livre and like to incorporate a lot of lockdown, truck, rubber guard etc. Point is he's a big no gi believer and a real top notch grappler. Being a LL black belt he can rank us (even though he doesn't pay much attention to belts). My question is I know that traditionall bjj belts are respected at 10p (if you're a purple belt, and start training at a 10p school you're automatically a 10p purple belt from what I understand), so are Luta Livre belts the same way? I mean if I'm a LL blue belt and I train at a 10p in the future, which I definitely plan on doing, will I have to start from white belt? Not that it matters all that much but I definitely don't want to feel like I'm starting from scratch. Any info or opinions welcome, thanks

Interesting question. I am guessing it won't transfer because the lineage is different. Lute Livre does interest me all the same. I would love to hear what makes it different from No Gi Jiu Jitsu from a practitioner.

A lot of catch wrestling type stuff, but it depends on the gym/coach, my instructor is a leg lock freak and he's done sambo and jiu jitsu and wrestling as well as LL. The biggest thing is we'll add a half hour on to the end of training and put 4 oz gloves on and add some ground and pound, which only makes me more of a believer in 10th planet, I have some training partners who are savages and I can keep them under control in rubber guard even when we're training GnP. Same goes for lockdown

I have tons of respect for Luta Livre and its strategies. However it is not BJJ, and its my opinion that its ranks wouldn't transfer. Judo ranks don't transfer, gracie combatives doesn't transfer as well as many other grappling/mma arts. This doesn't discredit its effectiveness or that we can't share and learn from each other, just that they are different. Obviously I don't have a final say , that'd be up to the maestro, just wanted to add my .02

Hey Chris, makes sense. I can't say exactly how pure our version of LL is as I'm really no that experienced in it. To me it seems like any other form of no gi. Btw I'm a big fan of your instructionals on YouTube, I used the ghost escape last weekend in competition after drilling it for a couple weeks, thanks for the reply

I don't guess I've ever met a Lutra Livre practitioner. Even less common here than legit catch wrestling.

As a Ronin white belt, I wouldn't feel right about claiming a 10th Planet rank unless Sensi Eddie, Zog or any other 10th Planet Coach awarded it.
