Tonon going for those kneebars was a thing of beauty. Darabedyan's defense was sharp though and he never got flustered. He was definitely in his comfort zone. It seemed that a lot of the preemptive leg lock defense came from good open guard principles, i.e. having points of contact established and not leaving things dangling. If nothing else, this gave enough time to already start working towards defending one way or another with hip rotation and/or attacking the other guys legs. Their knowledge of leg locks was impressive though. They were going for a number of things I've only seen in that Zogopedia but haven't really gone for. Things that were used as counters to other things. Countering leg locks with leg locks.
Non-leg lock related, I think it was at about 3:35 into the video that Tonon had an outside lockdown and brought his legs up to set up a stage 1.5 triangle (sort of a meathook-esque position). I've been having trouble switching btwn lockdown to rubber guard so it was nice to see that variation.
