From mmamania.com:
With the sophomore effort of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on network television just days away on Jan. 28, 2012, the promotion today announced that a fantastic lightweight showdown will be featured on its third show, which will take place at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, N.J., on May 5, 2012.
Jim Miller, who hails from nearby Sparta, will take on Stockton, Calif., scrapper Nate Diaz in what is likely a number one 155-pound contender eliminator match on the UFC on Fox 3 televised main card.
UFC President Dana White shared the good news via his official twitter account.
Miller is fresh off a first round submission win over Melvin Guillard in the UFC on FX 1 main event, surviving an early knockdown to roar back and choke out the "Young Assassin." The win marked his tenth inside the Octagon in 12 tries, losing only to top division contenders Gray Maynard and Ben Henderson, respectively, since 2008.
He is among the very best lightweights in the world.
So, too, is Diaz, meaning that the winner will likely challenge the man who emerges victorious in the fight between UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar vs. Ben Henderson, which takes place next month (Feb. 25, 2012) in Tokyo, Japan.
Diaz is red hot, enjoying a back-to-back win streak since returning to lightweight from a lackluster trip north to 170 pounds, losing consecutive decisions to Dong Hyun Kim and Rory MacDonald.
