Getting the over hook from Closed Guard

A huge portion of my guard game is focused on the overhook. I almost always secure an overhook before playing rubber guard. It makes it a lot easier for me to break the posture and there are free New Yorks all day. I'm not sure why an overhook would affect your flexibility or ability to play rubber guard.
