I competed in our local BJJ tournament today, going 1-1 in the Men's Blue Belt Absolute division. In my first match I drew a former two-time provincial university wrestling champion, and current head coach of the wrestling team where the tournament was held. As you'll see in the video, I have trouble creating opportunities from my guard against his tight posture and combination of stacking / hip control. I also fail to finish some Electric Chairs, and didn't really want to get crushed from Dogfight. In retrospect, I should have gone for the 50 sweep, or maybe just taken the omoplata from guard to get things moving.
I should mention that all leg locks other than a straight ankle lock from DOA were illegal.
What do you do against someone much bigger than you, with a top-notch wrestling background, if you can't get a sub off of your back?
Let me know what you think. Any criticism is welcome!
