Can't be choked???

I can understand him not tapping when you are live rolling if the choke isn't locked in, he could be making space on his neck. But if he lets you sink in a fully locked RNC without resistance and you still can't choke him unconscious, either he has supernatural powers (he doesn't), or you are doing it incorrectly.

The fact that it is a blood choke means you can't hold your breath or "search for the bubble" to resist it. You either escape, tap, or go to sleep.

not trying to be negative but I'd have to say dido to the comment above. None of those chokes have anything to do with airway if done properly. I know this thread wasn't about critiquing your technique but I would see how deep your elbow is when your reaching under the chin and to think of grabbing your shoulders with both hands. That should keep his head pretty tight. don't squeeze with your arms just contract your biceps, chest, and abs while reinforcing with your head and that should be a rap.

Is he letting you lock in any choke, or just the RNC? I'd try for an arm triangle and see if he's immune to it as well.

With the RNC are you popping your shoulder blades back or just squeezing with your arms?

The RNC has nothing to do with closing an airway, it has nothing to do with a "pocket of air'. It has to do with pressure on the carotid artery, restricting the flow of oxygen rich blood to the brain. There is a very thin muscle sheath that can be displaced to help expose carotid, to help with the RNC's efficiency. Sorry PJ, I agree with Jay, you're technique needs some work. Your game might be choke oriented, but those chokes are all diffrent from each other. As far as your techinque and squeeze, there are a few that are grouped together that use common motions to finishe: RNC's, Arm triangles, D'arce, anaconda chokes and a few others.
Focus on "scissoring your elbows together than elimanate space by pulling tight to your chest."


I recently did a seminar in where I was told they have a guy that wasn't D'arceable. I asked him to demostrate on the guy, he struggled and they guy didn't tap. I put the D'arce on him and he tapped instantly, the issue was technique.

Reminds me of Eddie's bouncer story from his book. The bouncer at the club Eddie worked at said that Eddie couldn't choke him out. And he was right. But then Eddie worked on his squeeze and redeemed himself. But in PJ's case, that may not be the issue. Let me guess, the guy has a skinny neck. Some guy's with skinny necks are hard to choke out unless you have it perfect.

I agree with everything Herzog stated. We had a student that was tough to finish with the triangle choke. He was very skinny and it was difficult to get his shoulder to close off the artery on one side of his neck even with proper angle and getting the arm across the body. You had to pull his head in order to finish the choke.

we have one kid who is 17 at da academy, RNC is the only thing that work on him unless you have the most perfect choke, even then you have to adjust and it takes a while. hes basically chokeless though cause his neck is so thin.
