Love this video. Rafa with major Omoplata game right off the bat.
Unwinder counter to the Duckunder escape.
Perpendicular Jiu Claw.
I'm sure he doesn't use those names, but it's beautiful nonetheless:)

I believe he calls it "Gettin Mendes'd"
Number 1 P4P right now IMO
The fact that he controlled the duckunder(via unwinder) and didn't end up in a scramble or reset is insane.

here's another of my favorites of him. you can actually see him solving the problem (manly's guard).
this video, in particular his passing, underscores something that Jean Jacques emphasizes (maybe in a book, video... i don't remember the source) which is to find a safe place when passing then WAIT for your opponent's movement to create error. then capitalize.
Except Coop didn't know this was being taped, was being respectful to a gym he was visiting and overall just being himself. Ie, being playful. A tournament match would look different than training in a gym
Who was that guy?
Sticky hooks then straight shell of defense once past. Rafa hunts arm isolation. Badass.
Now think if Marcelo attacked that defense? Watch the match and look for possible transitions to n/s choke. Marcelo would be all over it and hard. If he doesn't get sub he's takin mount. Then repeats till your n/s or guillotined.
Too completely diff styles at the highest level. Just goes to show there's no right or wrong. Only effective. Unless you're just doin it wrong..
It's against this particular defense that I think the 10p system shines. Beautiful jiu jitsu here though. I love rafa's style
You might have seen this video brandon but if not youll love it. Some of the sickest omoplata HL ive seen and clark gracie is nasty at it to even using a form of an iminari move but in the Gi and its his specialty apparently (could be old but I dont know much Gi)

LOL. You can take a arm triangle, darce, anaconda, any head-and-arm, and Rafa just says "arm triangle".
Even funnier is Cobrinha calls every choke besides the triangle a "choke". Guillotine, darce, RNC, bow & arrow, north-south choke it doesn't matter. It's a "choke".
Seriously? People in this thread are definitely judging both Rafa and Coop based upon a rolling session in the gym. I mean the only definition for getting "mendes'ed" someone should draw from that video is being taped and released without your consent. At least MG asks people before he posts tape. The worst part is we'll never see Coop vs Rafa in a tournament match because Rafa refuses to compete even remotely outside his weight class.
I completely agree Rick, I would love to see Rafa go up against heavier guys.
I think if Rafa had Bills mentality and competed against guys like Cavaca, Cyborg, etc he would be my favorite jiujitsu guy of all time. But as it stands I am a Coop fanboy lol
I would be very surprised if they taped without people knowing, the guy is right there and they record a lot for the website
You have too know stuff is being filmed
My comment was not a shot at Cooper but just how amazing Rafa is, of course its just a rolling session, but you can still see how Rafa is the best, I just was responding to Brandon saying the thing about what he calls it
Anyone who follows grappling knows Bill is a stud and always keeps ot playful like Glover also
Everytime he switched to North South I was expecting a NS choke. Man I was impressed with his guard pass defense but wasnt digging the shelling up and just sitting there after Rafa passed.
Other video brother. Unless Bill over tanned
Do you have some inside information that says the Mendes Bros didnt ask consent to post this video?
Who is judging either of them???? You say "people" and I have not seen one negative comment on either man.
I said MG asks people because he does, I've been told so by people (Hendricks if you need a name) who have trained with MG. You also sign a video release with MG before training.
I didn't say people referring to MB, because I haven't talked to anyone who is in video on their website outside Coop. I wasn't talking shit on MG at all, I don't think I've ever seen a negative comment about MG or MB. Coop himself was ecstatic about training with MB, you could tell by how much he was smiling and his Facebook comments after. I doubt Coop is upset that the video got posted because of his personality, but as a fan of his I am upset that people draw conclusions without knowing the facts of the roll. (Coop being injured, not knowing about the video being released, etc)
...ok. So im assuming you mean "people" outside of this forum. I love to watch Bill Cooper roll. I dont give a shit if hes getting worked, just in this video he got out of some tough positions. He is just fun to watch. In fact that armbar escape he used at the very end was in his Escapes! Dvd. Kinda cool to see him using the shit hes teaching. Makes it that much more legit.
lol. It'll get worse as the Coop vs Hall fight draws closer and Lovato vs Galvao.
I might have to retire from the interwebz to keep myself from starting e-battles.
So do you info that the video was shot without Cooper knowing? You are not really coming across clearly in your posts
Dont click that. I need a tech guy..
<straight fanboy.
I was the same way. Till I realized the pressure you can create on his jaw with your rib cage. Gotta keep your base super wide and low on big guys or ya get rolled. But they have to address it. This is when they are wide open for mount. Worth a month or two.
No Ive just done a few MB seminars and a private or 2. Rafa just said that he already has a lot of go to moves from those openings and that it doesn't feel as strong of a finish for him. Wasn't very specific past saying he didn't like it much. Sorry, wish I had more. He said in general he likes head-and-arm chokes over guillotines and north south chokes because it's easier for him to close all of the space due to his longer arms. That said he Marcelo guillotined a few people when we rolled so he can and does do pretty much every move you can think of.

i'm a student there, but havent asked him about the n/s... just wondering if i knew you in person... Slick Rick is a regular there also... he trains with alot of good people from different gyms
There's a berimbolo seminar in a week..next saturday i believe... mendes bros and miyao bros... 4 hours of berimbolo goodness...
I'm maybe a low blue belt with my ns choke but I found it clicked for me and can finish it pretty well. Just need to keep putting in reps
