here's another of my favorites of him. you can actually see him solving the problem (manly's guard).
this video, in particular his passing, underscores something that Jean Jacques emphasizes (maybe in a book, video... i don't remember the source) which is to find a safe place when passing then WAIT for your opponent's movement to create error. then capitalize.

Except Coop didn't know this was being taped, was being respectful to a gym he was visiting and overall just being himself. Ie, being playful. A tournament match would look different than training in a gym

Wait, what?
Nobody cares if cooper lost a rolling match. Nobody thinks he's anything less than amazing because of this. Nobody cares how "hard they were going." The technique is beautiful. And cooper's defense is beautiful.
I don't get it.

Sticky hooks then straight shell of defense once past. Rafa hunts arm isolation. Badass.
Now think if Marcelo attacked that defense? Watch the match and look for possible transitions to n/s choke. Marcelo would be all over it and hard. If he doesn't get sub he's takin mount. Then repeats till your n/s or guillotined.
Too completely diff styles at the highest level. Just goes to show there's no right or wrong. Only effective. Unless you're just doin it wrong..
