Forks over knives documentary

I know I'm super late on this topic but what does everyone think of this documentary? Since I've started jiu jitsu I've changed my diet a lot. I was always pretty active but jiu jitsu takes being active and diet to a different level. When I first started I stupidly ate two packages of ramen noodle the night before judo. That being said I felt like I was going to die at judo. From that day on I started changing my diet. Almost 4 years later and I'm still improving my diet. I eat pretty well most of the time. I feel a lot better than I used to. Right now we eat ground turkey probably once a week and same for chicken. That's for Monday - Thursday and doesn't include whatever we eat out on the weekend. I've cut my cheese and dairy down quite a bit but I want to eliminate cheese. Now after watching this documentary I really want to cut meat down ALOT. I don't know if I would cut it out 100 percent though. My problem is I don't know if I could think of many whole food plant based meals. Coming up with meals is already a hassle.

So what does everyone think of this video and what does your diet consist of?

I've been thinking of going on an all meat diet.

Isn't coach Zog a paleo guy? Ask him what he thinks.

Wait is it made with soy milk because if not it's not vegan and they don't want that either so it doesn't matter.

Its a good doc, very informative.
I also don't eat red meat, pork etc, and very little dairy. I stick to chicken and turkey and I try hard to not over consume with that too. :)

There are some really easy black bean burgers recipes online. I suck at cooking and they always turn out pretty good. Lots of protein too.

Seriously? I could have swore you were a paleo guy.

I've been eating a raw diet for close to 1.5 years now, I was eating paleo for about 7 years prior. I had a transitional period of about 6 months where i was bouncing back and forth until I just took the plunge. It was mentally difficult for me to get over the idea of not eating animal protein.

I'm currently in the best shape phyically (minus injuries) that I've been in the last 10 years.

Jeremy if you are serious about the raw diet set up a consulation with Kathy, this is one of her specialities.

I like the way it has been rebranded as a "Raw Diet" it sounds tough! I'm going to stick to calling you guys vegans though.

Personally I eat a ton of red meat, but mostly wild game. Deer, Bear, Moose and Elk. I also eat a lot of Salmon and Trout, self caught.
I take a pile of Whey protein in on a daily basis, and I eat at least 3 eggs a day. I drink fish oil, take multivitamins and also use a product line that is heavily plant-based. I eat Chicken that is just store bought, and Turkey too.
I am 60/40 with Meat/veggies, and the odd piece of fruit strategically placed if it serves a purpose. (Pre/Post workout)
However I typically only have one solid meal a day (not including my eggs), and the rest of my meals are Nutritionally dense meal replacement shakes.
I will eat Instant Oatmeal as a pre-workout on days that I want to lift heavy or push myself hard too so I can't say I am paleo, but I am starch and sugar free for the most part.

In the last year I've started eating better than I ever have but still don't think it's good enough. I'll have to talk to Kathy about it.

Based off tha documentary it causes cancer, heart disease, diabetes. Countries where people ate meat in had the highest death rate from those diseases compared to other countries who didn't eat meat. Milk for calcium and animal protien isn't as good for u as we all were brain washed to think atleast based off this video.

Your going to make radical dietary changes based on a 96 min. documentary? Let me explain what you watched so you can maybe look a little deeper and make a more informed choice. That was 96 min. of vegan propaganda pseudo science and psychological trickery. I don't believe they ever said meat causes cancer heart disease or diabetes to make such a bold and ridiculous statement they would have to back that up with science which they could not do. They do however imply some of these things based on Cambell's research which is where the pseudo science comes in. Cambell wrote a book called The China Study which is basically from what I understand (I haven't read it) a bunch of theories and hypothesis that he presents as evidence. This is all based off a SHIT TON of data he collected in an actual study that he published under the name Diet Lifestyle and Mortality in China. Problem is a lot of people have since got there hands on this data and found a lot of correlations in it that contradict Cambell's own theories and hypothesis. So basically what he did is stop half way through the scientific process cherry pick through a shit ton of data using what supported his agenda and wrote a book and got paid. The psychological trickery is that they constantly tell you in the doc that a+b+c=d a being animal products b being all the other shit in the standard american diet and c being anything a vegan would eat and d being poor health. So if you remove a and b from the equation your left with c=e e supposedly being a picture of perfect health. They attempt to make all animal products synonymous with fast food, processed food, red bull ,coke, and constantly blur the lines between these two groups and the correlation with bad health. All this to push there vegan agenda under the guise of a "whole food plant based diet". If you want address specific points in the documentary give me a time mark. But hey if you decide to go vegan you will still be better off than most people and I wish you luck but there is no reason to throw the baby out with the bath water. I would recommend The Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf. He also has a podcast.

No I'm not basing my decision off one 96 min video. The idea did come up with sole interesting points based off all their research and experiements though. I've been wanting to cut cheese out of my diet for a while now ( cheese is basicly the ony dairy I eat ). I've also been wanting to greatly reduce the amount of meat I eat but it's not all up to me. I have a fiancé and we both have to agree on the changes. She eats pretty well like info already but trying to convince her to make a more drastic change is semi difficult. Not that I would go vegan but reduce it by a lot.

I hear ya diet Is something I have spent the past few years trying to have a better understanding of and improve on my self, it's a struggle with the tons of info out there.

Cows routinely pumped full of synthetic growth hormones, antibiotics, and eating pesticide filled GMO food, cant be good.

I wonder how well Eskimos would do on a meat free diet?

Who here has a background in physical anthropology and biochemistry and can actually understand the implications of these diets beyond a surface/word of mouth level?

Almost everything we consider food can have negative consequences if consumed in excess. Genetics play a big part of what a health diet is for each individual.

I cant/no one can say what is an optimum human diet, and not only because it varies for individuals, i can say that the documentary is not based on strong science.

They cite poorly conducted, non-repeated experiments many times such as with the study done on rats fed casein protein, the low protein rats died prematurely, perhaps not allowing cancer to manifest and in part to their low protein diets. There were other problems with this one as well.

They cited the study on monkeys without even understanding the results;

The doc is bullshit but some of what they are saying may not be, hard to separate when they purposely mislead the audience to suite their agenda. (either that or none of them can understand scientific publications)

I could go on. You can be healthy on a wide variety of diets. The way we raise most of our meat is not environmentally ethical, that in my eyes is a much greater concern than the health consequences of reasonably consuming it based on my understanding of biology.

We dont fucking know what to eat, probably because we want to believe there is one optimum diet for all of us.

Right the high protein fed rats lived with liver cancer and the low protein fed rats died early from liver necrosis it must be hard for cancer to develop in the liver when the liver is dying.

If y'all are getting married soon, def clean up the diet! Lol, being with a man that does Jiu Jitsu..you have to be supportive. Time to cut weight? Vegan time! Big competition, could bulk up a little, doing way more physically than normal? Still very healthy, but lighter meats are ok! That's how it is at our place, just depends on what's up. I'm sure she will get it and at least try to not eat bad around you if you tell her! Even when I didn't do JJ I didn't eat bad in front of Sean if we were supposed to be dieting or w.e. He knew I'm sure, but I did try.

lol, yeah. im not saying that the point they were trying to put forward is incorrect, there might be good data out their to support their ideas, they just didn't use any. To be fair its an entertainment doc not a paper publish for peer review but . .

Loved the movie, haven't got to a point in my life I can firmly be vegan but I know when my health goes I'm going vegan lol
