Three time UFC title challenger Kenny Florian has retired from mixed martial arts. UFC president Dana White announced the retirement tonight after the weigh-ins for the The Ultimate Fighter Live Finale. The 36-year-old retires with a 14-6 record (12-5 UFC) including 9 wins by submission.
Florian was one of the stars of the first season of The Ultimate Fighter where he competed in the 185lb Middleweight division. He lost to Diego Sanchez in the first Ultimate Fighter Finale in 2006.
Florian challenged for the UFC Lightweight strap twice. First in a bout for the vacant title against Sean Sherk at UFC 64 in 2006 where he lost via a decision. He next challenged B.J. Penn at UFC 101 in 2009. He lost that bout by submission in the fourth round. Finally Florian moved down to Featherweight and challenged Jose Aldo for the title at UFC 136 in October, 2011. He lost that bout by unanimous decision.
That UFC 136 bout would be Florian's last. He is currently working as a UFC commentator and analyst on Fuel TV.
