I really disagree. I think we had some fears (fears I am not sure are totally unfounded) that drugs would wind up doing to us what opium did to China: turn a large portion of our populace into people who are a drain on society.
Maybe that's true and maybe it isn't true. Thing is, the war on drugs seems to have done what opium did to China: turn a large portion of our populace into people who are a drain on society.
I don't think it's a conspiracy man. People are stupid. Stupid people do stupid things. I reckon two people can keep a secret if one of them is dead (and maybe not then). A conspiracy to lock up a bunch of people so that we can funnel money (that we got through loans) to contractors? You don't have to lock people up to do that. That's a really bad conspiracy. Here's a better one: create a roads project and funnel a lot of money to companies that are "building roads." Here's a better one: create black projects for the military, fund them and enjoy zero accountability.
Nah man, the drugs thing? This is society trying to solve a problem that can't be solved. That never goes well.
We need to question a lot of things from the top down and rethink some stuff. But I'm not sure we're capable as a people. There's just too much great stuff on TV.
My two cents.
