Ranked Judo players not allowed to participate in other combat sports! WTF? Herzog?

Was curious what our resident Judoka, Chris Herzog thought of this:

So the IJF decided to make a rule that ranked Judo players are no longer allowed to participate in other combat sports. BJJ, Wrestling, etc. My Sensei is curious how they expect to enforce it.

The damage control by the IJF was pretty pathetic. The President made statements about "maintaining the purity" and a lot of other strange stuff. They got so much backlash that they deleted the facebook post and the page on their website with the same information. Fortunately, in the age of the internet nothing is ever really gone.

Same thing I've always said. Judo (IJF) will deal the killing blow to Judo. Self sabotage is immanent. Politics and absurd rules changes are what spurred me to separate myself from the sport Judo world. Most don't realize how vast the art of Judo is, they are only exposed to the limited set of techniques that are now deemed legal for competition. This isn't based on research, but I dare say the list of illegal techniques in sport Judo is probably longer than the list of legal techniques now.

I love Judo, however the Judo (sport) of today is not what I fell in love with. This isn't some old dog reminiscing about the old timey days, but rather someone who shares a passion and vision of Kano's intent when he developed the science of Judo. Today's Judo is a gross bastardization of Kano's vision and it saddens me greatly.

Kano didn't reject other grappling arts, he didn't try to ostracize those that practiced Jujutsu, wrestling or sumo. He embraced them and welcomed them into the folds of Judo. How better to understand and ultimately neutralize and defeat a opponent than training and learning from them.

I see the path of self destruction being mirrored by the IBJJF in BJJ as well. Which is why I am where I am now, here with the 10th Planet family. Of course we have our in house politics and we have disagreements however our focus is on constant improvement rather than whats best for a select fews pockets.
