Don't worry about points or time. Don't rush anything, Just relax and play your game. Remember to breathe and always look for openings.

    Good luck!

Work on your takedowns, and learn to breakfall QUICK. Having the air knocked out of your really makes it hard to grapple well. Of course, I do love chucking fuckers and armbaring them before they have a clue what just happened. Other than that, chill and breathe.

Honestly man, the best thing to do is SOLELY CONTROL YOUR OPPONENT. i made the mistake on my third tournament of shooting for submissions right off the bat and got tired and got my guard passed and lost....

If you relax and maintain control and look to pass slowly and tightly, your opponent will panic and you will win. IF a submission opening pops up then take it, but dont seek it.

BREATHE!!! Seriously, keep your mind on your breathing and let the muscle memory do it's thing. If you find yourself holding your breath and clinching and bearing down RELAX AND BREATHE or you'll gas right out. You're going to have enough adrenaline pumping through you that you'll burn out fast if you don't just relax and breathe. Keep your ears open and listen to your coaches, breathe, listen well, breathe, don't panic, breathe, listen well. Do that and you'll be fine. It's not like you're going to learn any new techniques right there in the middle of a match, right? So why worry about the techniques? You know what you know and your coaches will point out opportunities for you and guide you. All you have to worry about is not gassing out so you can do the things you need to. So just breathe.

Don't neglect the mental preparation. Visualize yourself being there on the mats and winning. Be specific; work through positions, transitions, and submissions all the way from beginning to end. Do you see yourself pulling guard or shooting for a takedown? If you shoot for the takedown, what kind? What position do you land in after the takedown? Where do you go from here? See the fight playing out hundreds of different ways with you winning every time. See it from beginning to end and don't take your focus off until you see your hand being raised. Coach Herzog is big on the total-person concept of preparation. Use the search feature to find his articles on preparation; they're full of good stuff.

dont panic. Just try to stay chill. If you havent done enough reps to allow muscle memory to take over.. youre going to need to be able to think while grappling. which can be hard if they keep it at a fast pace. So try your best to work through each step as best as you remember. Dont try to rush anything. that will just hurt you if your not ready to transition at a fast pace yet. And try to come up with a plan in your head of what youre going to try to do before each match. if you visualize the plan first it will be easier to remember while rolling. Its like auditioning for a play.. you want to memorize your lines before you go in there. And if something goes wrong, have a default plan, then try to work your way back to where you left off and keep trying. And as always, if another opportunity arises for a submission.. take it.

I get nervous! Bad! My wife/coach/nurse always reminds me that I'm just paying to go practice. Don't try the new stuff you learned last week at practice, go with what you know and run a clinic doing it!
    Cheers! Good luck!
