For anyone who plays rubberguard in the gi, have you found any particular moves or modifications that take advantage of grips?
I feel like there must be some undocumented stuff there, especially around the meathook series that might allow for lapel grips; maybe even some chokes.
I'm just such a newbie with so little mat time that it's hard to determine if something is legit. If it works on my fellow whitebelt, that doesn't tell me much. The fact that it doesn't work on a purple belt might also not tell me much. Either way I have to turn to my Jiu Jitsu elders for advice. My intuition is telling me there is cool stuff there waiting for me.
For example if I meathook with my left-arm, over my left-leg. Can I feed the guy's right-side lapel into my left hand and just choke him right there with it?
And if that grip is too far away or hidden, can I grab his left-side lapel and pull back until the gi is tight in his armpit and use that for control of his left shoulder?
I'm starting to experiment, but again, I'm so newbie that I'm not really able to get good data. I talk to some of my coaches about this stuff and while they are supportive, smart, and experienced in jiu jitsu, they are not master rubberguard players.
I'm just looking mainly for ways to tie grips into the existing rubberguard control positions to execute chokes or increase the stickiness of the hold.
