I was at a local MMA fight this past weekend and I must say, the fight standard was good. Unfortunately, one of the fighters for a particular fight that I would've given the fight of the night was rushed to the hospital 20mins after the fight. He fought one of the guys that train in the same gym Connor Mcgregor trains at, passed away this morning. It hasn't been determined if it was injuries from the fight or he had underlying health problems. So sad. His name was Joao Carvalho

That fuckin' sucks. His opponent is probably feeling mad low right now after feeling so high after winning the fight. Damn.

You guys have no idea the shitstorm this has triggered in Portugal, where the late Carvalho was from :/

Every newspaper is now figuring out what MMA is, what the UFC is, they keep talking about vale tudo (NHB), the dark ages of the sport, quoting statistics, etc.

I can only imagine how both the ref and his opponent are feeling.

The Ref is my bjj coach and he owns the club I train in. He has locked himself up cos of media pressure. He was supposed to compete in ADCC on May1st. He had been training really hard and is in such a shape I've never seen him in. He's also one of the best refs in Ireland but with this issue now. It's really sad and unfortunate. When Connor Mcgregor was interviewed immediately after the fight, he said it was a good fight (we all thought it was fight of the night), and then after the news was received of his death, he said the Ref should've stopped it earlier.
