    If the guy doesn't resist when I push him a little or drops back to play guard, then I stand up always but if I feel resistance when I push him, I just play guard.

    But on topic, depending on the build an experience of my opponent I mix it up. I try to work my top and bottom game equally.

    Most people at our gym start from butterfly, so i like to start with one leg posted and slice up the middle to stuff the butterfly and try and pass, worse case i get caught in half guard and work from there.

    i just pull guard so i can practice sweeps and stuff.
