Just when I think that I know what I'm talking about I find out that I'm just another asshole giving bad advise online...it's so disappointing to be that guy. So I re-watched the MTRG DVD instructions on this & see this detail and a few others that somehow I missed before.
Here is where I go off script
- I never post to my elbow, I try to roll towards my stomach.
- I hold the lockdown tight (ankles stacked) but curl my knees a little during the roll to give some room so that I can pin the guys knee with my shoulders.
- Once there my legs go from 50% to 100% extended for the tap.
I'm sure there's a great reason to post to the elbow & push for the tap with your upper body but I just don't understand it. What is the advantage to posting up on the elbow instead of staying down? I've been there before & I don't feel like I get as much leverage, thus less finishes. I feel way stronger if I use my legs to finish instead. I can clearly see this isn't how it looks when explained by the pros - I'm just confused since it has been working for me.
I read the comment that a common mistake is to relax the legs during the angry rainbow which can allow the guy to adjust. But I don't feel like I'm relaxing - I'm holding the lockdown tight just not extending fully. Is even that is enough of a window for an escape from my lockdown?
I'm really trying to understand if my bastardized version of the electric chair is legit or if its only working because I'm rolling with other white belts. I love this submission so I'm thrilled with the idea of improving this technique.
