Ever had one of those days?

I swear today has just been non stop with kick me while i'm down after another. So i thought what better night then to go to the gym and drill some stuff and forget about my problems....Wrong drilling went great but when it came time to free roll i absolutely got handle by a wrestler with about 2 weeks training. Not better than me just so much stronger I hate it. Its so frustrating to get caught in arm locks from dumb positions cause the other guy can simply just move you around where ever he wants. Normally i would just shake this off as an off day but problem is i'm a Heavy weight and 5'11 so when a 205'r can come just muscle me around it really worries me bout bigger comps that i want to do like NAGA. Makes me think its not even worth doing cause i will just simply get done in by even bigger and stronger guys. Need some advice Bjj is a very big passion in my life but days like today just really get me down.

Its all a matter of perspective. There is never anything wrong with learning. So you learned what you need to focus on today. Congrats, some guys will train and never realize what they need to focus on for personal growth. You do. Go get it done.

I am one of those nOOb wrestlers. Dont worry thats all he has speed, power, a good base and wrist control. But thats it... for now. Dont feel bad even a average HS wrestler will have tons of mat time, matches and all the basics are so ingrained its almost impossible to forget. Thats me, I was OK never made it even close to state and I havent wrestled for 20 years (thanks Josh for correcting me last week when I said 15 years). As soon as I get on the mat a lot of those ingrained skills come back as instinct. But also wrestlers are pretty predictable, we will start high on our knees, come forward with our head and arms, clinch, leave our arms in bad spot while on top etc...

All I can offer for advice is never expect to be better than someone else. Also when rolling against bigger stronger people focus on defense. Last learn to love getting tapped since it is an opportunity to learn. If I didnt learn from getting tapped I would have quit already, those jerks in Chicago tap me with my own subs!

I think some people just have freak strength and you need a back up plan for those guys.

Yea thanks everyone, Yea the guy in question is a former state wrestler. I know i need to get stronger just have never been a strong person myself so my confidence on getting stronger isnt that great. Biggest thing with strong wrestlers is they give ZERO space and i swear head arm chokes are built into a wrestlers DNA lol. My defense is usually pretty good when he gets top position he usually just squeezes the hell out of my head. My go to moves are the lock down and sweeps i just dont know how to get his arms off of me to get the whip up with him so that my head gets free.

    Agreed

I'm the biggest dude in my class and I get tossed around ALL THE TIME but , the more I get tapped the more I learn. But I haven't been trying very long. Also must of the wrestlers in my class are the must helpful to me with drills. so.

Train with him the most. I believe you get better when you grapple someone who forces you to improve. Don't worry about who's better. Focus on getting better. You're not thinking straight if you believe he handled you with "2 weeks training." He's been training for years. He's just now adding jiu jitsu to his already deep foundation. He represents a real challenge out there. If you're really hungry for a gold at NAGA, you'll have to learn how to deal with wrestlers. So if you think about it, he's going to be the guy to help you get there.

Like coach said, it's all about perspective.
