I tried to see things from Nick's POV and I just can't find a valid excuse.

Shady promoter didn't want to donate to charity? Ok, but you're the one who said YOU'd donate YOUR purse to charity. So take your money, and donate it.

Braulio didn't make weight the day before? Ok, but he made weight the day of.


The problem with Nick is that he doesn't appreciate his fans and I believe he's afraid to lose. Ok, shady promoter? Put that to the side for the time being and show up for your fans. Braulio didn't make weight? Ok, show up for your fans. Caio was outweighed by a lot! You didn't see him complaining. For all that "don't be scared" talk, he sure behaves like he's scared. After you fight, win or lose, your fans will appreciate you, your charity gets paid, and if you feel like there was anything shady, you can put them on blast and come out looking like the good guy for showing up to fight for the fans.

But no. Nick can't think of anyone but himself. It's a damn shame.

Its sucked being there all day waiting for the fight, for it to never happen, and to make it worse he was there signing autograph's earlier and dipped out and never came back. Before his scheduled match he was seen getting into a heat exchange with "Rento", i don't know over what of if that had anything to do with it, but he is lame for that, i wouldn't say FUCK YOU to his face but i would sure tell him he's fuccckkked up for that to his face.

That's what he thinks. After this stunt, he's going to have a hard time finding promoters who are going to want to deal with him. He's waaaay too much of a liability. And while the "my way or the highway" approach may be good for negotiating in certain business realms, this is a business that's fan driven. He's gotta wise up man.

Like I said, at the very least, do it for the fans. And if he was afraid to lose, he could've just called it an exhibition match or something. I just can't think of any reason that makes this acceptable. Just straight up bailing and then barely explaining yourself and not even apologizing to the fans. He's killing his career little by little.

I have been a life-long Nick Diaz fan, and I have dealt with years of his BS, from no-shows to shitty interviews. But this was the first time I ever really reconsidered being a fan. For once, his animosity and apathy towards others was directed not at his opponent, but at his fans and a charity. He screwed his biggest fans out of money, and didn't say a word about why. That being said, since everything is focused on what he did wrong, I thought I would play devil's advocate. For the record, I do not agree with Nick, I feel bad for Braulio, and I am actually kinda pissed about the whole thing. But here is the closest I can come to unbiased:

In the article linked at the bottom of this post, they explain both sides of the story. Basically, Braulio BADLY missed weight the day before, and somehow convinced everyone to add 5 lbs to the max weight and let him have a day to make it. I don't know if he agreed with Nick, Cesar, or even just the tournament director, but I assume this is where Nick got disgruntled and decided to no-show. Nick felt like he was giving up advantages already by fighting one of the top grapplers alive in his own game, and doing so at 180 where Braulio is most comfortable. Nick cut his weight, and made weight when he was supposed to. But now, Braulio or his team wanted Nick to re-weigh-in when Braulio did the next day. This would take away any extra size advantage for Nick, screw up his hydration schedule, and give Braulio less cutting-related physical stress. So, especially if the new agreement was reached without Nick's approval, I can see why he said "no way".

That being said, Nick treated the whole situation like a child and a douchebag. He could have just showed up, and either fought at the new weight or explained why he wouldn't. He could have rescheduled, or just flat-out refused to fight after Braulio missed weight. But he didn't even tell anyone he canceled, didn't give people a chance to not purchase the video, and didn't tell the tournament director. He didn't even send Cesar with a message of "you didn't make weight, so screw you!" So while I understand that this isn't as simple as "Nick didn't show up again," and though I keep hearing little insinuations that Braulio or his team might have been trying to play this angle to get a weight advantage, I can not in any way feel bad for poor Nick Diaz, who always claims to be misunderstood and treated so unfairly. I am too busy wondering why we all wasted our money, why we got all excited to see him fight (again), and why he gets to make so much off of us from his career, but can't be bothered to let us know what the f*** is going on.

I think your exactly right. Some people just don't like being screwed around. I don't even like Diaz but I can't blame him for not taking a match with misleading promotion or a 9lb heavy opponent. I have a feeling he bailed after weigh-ins and I don't really see him checking for updates on Braulio Estima the next morning to see if he really tried to make weight the day after weigh-ins.

Loyalty isnt a choice for those who have it. Its not like im standing by him regardless just because. I can see the truth in Nick because of his flaws. I believe that anybody who lives and loves to train, would respect Nick at your gym. Many, many fighters become bitter after dealing with promoters and behind the scenes in the pro game. He didnt start this game for fame, fans, sex, or money. Its who he is. Many will never be able to grasp that and thats fine. But I bet most of your descisions in life are based around these. Nothin wrong with that either. Different strokes. I<3 Nick 4evr.
