Living costs around the 10th planet HQ local area ?

Hello everyone - my name is Samee and I live in England, it is my dream to go and visit the USA and train at the 10th planet HQ. I have therefore been stashing away all my money to fund this jujitsu quest and so far have about 3000 pounds/4500 dollars.

1-Can anyone who lives around and is familiar with the Hollywood HQ area please advise me on how much it will cost to rent an apartment (I'm talking literally the cheapest and worst place possible to keep costs down - even having to share a room with a heroin dependent smurf wont bother me as long as it's near the HQ gym).
2-How easy is it to find work around the area? is there a lot of bar work/trivial jobs available? (simply to pay for food/rent etc)

    Any response is appreciated,

    thank you very much.

$4500 is a fair amount of money but Hollywood is a really expensive place to live and a lot of the areas are to be honest pretty ghetto. If you want to be a bar tender or waiter to get some cash flow going there are tons of bars and restaraunts you could work at, a lot of really nice ones too where the money could be pretty good. I would suggest looking online on sites like rent.com at apartments in the LA area even just outside like in the San Fernando Valley, Burbank, or even Pasadena. There is a lot of public transportation but it can be pretty sketchy at times, especially at night but thats on you if you would feel comfortable traveling like that. Unfortunately So Cal requires a lot of driving and gas prices are pretty high. LA is a tricky place you can either live in a $15 million dollar house in the hills or live in an area where you have to watch your back everywhere. Do plenty of research on surrounding cities of where you could live. You don't want to live in the shitty areas trust me, having to fear some of the savage LA gangs isn't fun because they are absolutely ruthless, I write this as I sit at my computer writing a term paper on Gangs for my Law Enforcement class.
Being that HQ is not going to be at legends obviously you should hold off for now on coming out until the official location is announced. Save more money for now and then follow Eddie to see where the new HQ location will be that way you can make living arrangements based off that.
Hope this helps. Sorry it is a little long winded. You'll definitely enjoy training with Eddie the 10th Planet JJ system has changed my life.
If you have any questions feel free to ask, I know a decent amount about the LA area and could help you as best as I can.

Hey, Los Angeles native here, born in Hollywood, I've been here all my life.

First off I'll say that $4500 is a really great start. Personally I know friends who've moved out with way less of savings, so depending on your ability to find work I'd say that is a great amount of money to have. Housing can be really expensive, but depending on where you're willing to live and if you're willing to room you can find a place for $350 a month and under. Don't expect the best in LA area housing though.

Second, since you mention bar work, I'm assuming you've got some experience with that and you'd like to do that. I've got about a dozen or so friends who work/worked as bouncers on the sunset strip and a few more who worked as bartenders, a big part of getting work comes down to who you know and what your references are. If you're seriously looking for full-time work in that area send me a private message and I might be able to help you out depending on when you're coming. Also, and this might sound a little weird, but since you're English and I assume have an accent there are some places that will actually look to that as a plus. England has a legendary pub culture.

Also and this might suck to hear, but you're probably going to want to have some kind of a car while you're here. LA public transportation is honestly pretty bad, and if you're coming from out of the country you'll probably think it is really primitive and horrible.

I agree with Nick and Michael. You should save more money and come later when the new HQ is open. L.A is ghetto in a lot of areas so you should be careful where you live because many people get mugged, even in urban areas. Transportation is also a hassle too. There's lots of traffic from morning to evening and riding the metro really sacrifices a lot of time. I'd suggest find a 10th planet member that can help take care of you. Even crappy apartments have a little high rent. I'm not sure about jobs, but it's gonna be pretty competitive to find a decent job unless it's at a fast food joint.

    Are you English?
I trained at ATT in florida for 3 months as thats the longest tourist visa you can get, if you wana stay linger then that you'll have to leave the country then come back, so plan on some extra airfair.
Also you wont be able to work, unless you can find someone who will pay you cash in hand you'll need a social security num and tax number, and your not legally allowed to work on the tourist visa so you just gota make sure you save up enough to last.
Iv been in LA for the past week and its pretty expensive here, im staying in a pretty shity hotel and its still $80 a night, apartment should work out a bit cheaper.
In florida i went on findaroom.com and moved into the spare room in someones house which cost me $300 a month i think, dont know what it would be in la. hope some of this helps a bit

safe for the detailed reply mate! it sounds a lot like london the way you describe the nice areas next to the ghetto areas, its literally the same. Could you please tell me how far the new headquarters is going to be from the old one? Is it genuinely not worth coming until the new one is built?
