Butterfly Guard- The Wrestler's Guard of choice?

Interesting post on sherdog though the title is a let down!

Any truth to that? Seemed like I was gravitating towards a half guard, butterfly sweeping to side control or knee bar style anyways. I'm naturally flexible but don't quite have it in the hamstrings to pull off rubber guard or crackhead control yet. Feel most comfortable in side control and knee on belly from the top and on bottom half guard feels like it has more options and angles to me. Tried some butterfly guard but I was going against wrestlers who'd stand up and it didn't quite work out so well for me. xP

When I wrestled I knew it was always gonna be bad news if I end up on my ass. When I felt like Butterfly guard was necessary was usually if I was taken down and had no possible way to defend it. I sit back in tying up his head or underhook his arm and would push off the hips with my feet try and slow down his drive and give myself room to breathe. If your reflexes are good enough you can try to work a reversal or scramble back up. I can see totally see it being applicable, but not recommended in wrestling strictly a last resort defense.

No, lol my bad. I didn't mean in a wrestling match. I mean transitioning from wrestling to Jiu Jitsu/mma do you find yourself most comfortable in these sort of guards? If so why do you think that is?

Butterfly guard is at the center of the open guard offense/defense.
You will get to butterfly guard on your way to:
    -transition to another guard
    -arm drag to back
    -take down from the knees
    -lock down
    -get to 93 guard
    -leg lock
    -guillotine
    -inverted arm bar
    -sweep
    -technically stand up
-and these days to go de la riva or inverted

So butterfly alone in not the answer, but part of a solution.

[At the world's I was using butterfly to transition to some of the things listed above. Now I transition to all of them, depending on what's given to me]

Everyone's no-gi guardwork needs to be based around butterfly and half-guard. Unless you are on some way more advanced stuff.
I wrestled for 10 years and played bjj for around 6 years and butterly if def my guard of choice. If my opponent is not good at butterfly or some kind of halfguard, I will pass quickly.
