Listen to your coaches Vol: Thanks Coach Herzog.

I'm sure after reading this, my Coach's response will be along the lines of "no shit Sherlock." But I wanted to type it anyway because it may help other knuckle headed students like myself.

I love to try things that I've watched on the internet. Thing is, when I roll, this usually ends bad for me. I'll keep that part short. This isn't even the part where Coach says, "Duh," although, I'm sure he already has.

Last week, I had a convo with Coach Herzog that I took a lot from. He was telling me about his early days using the 10th planet system. How it wasn't something he was instantly good at. But he stuck to it. Even though he had other moves he knew would be effective, he insisted on using only 10th planet moves until he got good at them. And obviously, eventually, he got good. Really good. We didn't have this convo with the purpose of enlightening me. But it sure as hell worked.

The lightbulb went off in my head. I said to myself, "Self, why are you working on youtube stuff when you haven't even gotten good at the stuff you're learning in class?! From now on, work the system. Only the system."

So today I did only that. And needless to say, it worked. Yeah. This is the part where Coach is probably saying, "no shit." I know, I know.

Then, what drove it home even more was when my partner said, "That was really good. I saw everything coming and I just couldn't stop it." And another lightbulb went off. So THAT's why coach teaches these paths. They're effective even when you see them coming! They're tried and true paths. They're designed to reduce resistance so that you can get to the goal...the tap. At this point, coach is probably face palming. Yeah, I know. I'm an idiot. But I'm finally understanding.

So I just wanted to say thanks coach. Thanks for being a great and patient teacher. Today I had the best roll I've ever had and it was simply because I listened to my coach. So, to all the knuckle head students out there that try to do their own thing while rolling, I challenge you: just work the stuff that you learn in class. I guarantee that you'll see results quickly.

    TL;DR

And just in case that post was too sappy, here's a picture of a dinosaur riding a shark while holding lit dynamite and firing an uzi.
