Anderson Silva Vaseline Bullshit?

We all saw it, and we've seen it before from him, before every fight Anderson rubs all the vaseline from his face all over his body. I saw them wipe his chest off this time, but I hadn't seen them do that before. It's not like Anderson hides the fact that he's doing it, he was basically staring right into the camera while he did it this time.

My question is, is it legal?? If it's not legal, which is the impression I was under, then why the fuck doesn't Dana do/say something about it? I'm not trying to hate or anything and if it's not "illegal" then I'm all for it, take any advantage you can get, but if it is against the rules then why is it being brushed off as insignificant? It's clearly cheating. Anyone know the official UFC rule on the subject? What're your thoughts?

Doesn't bother me tbh. Anderson wipes a little excess vaseline on his skin. Chael uses testosterone. Evens itself out in the end. Chael hasn't moaned about it at all. It was a fight.

I have definitely seen other fighters doing it before. Besides from what i was hearing in an interview recently, a LOT of fighters sleep with something or other (cant remember what it was right now - think it was a recent Mike Dolce interview) so their skin absorbs it over night, then when they start sweating and their pores open up and they are extra slippery. :-)

Cocoa butter I think it was. That was from a Rogan podcast, I think it was the recent one with Eddie actually. And yea I see the argument that everyone "cheats" but I don't think that's a justification. And at the very least, don't do it so blatantly in front of the camera, just felt a little brazen to me, especially after GSP got blasted for it a few years ago.

In an attempt to prevent greasing, a rule was made so that the corner had zero control over applying vaseline. Because of the grease-gate scandal with BJ Penn/GSP, only the cutmen like Stitch or Leon Tabbs were allowed to apply it prefight or in between rounds. Now here's the tricky part; I don't believe there's a rule preventing a fighter from greasing himself with the vaseline applied to his face. It's a loophole that Anderson has been abusing for a long time now. I'm really glad they noticed it this time; hopefully they'll amplify the previous rules to prevent shit like this.

Well if nothing else it has brought the issue back under the spotlight. It should be addressed.
For the record, i think fighters should definitely NOT be allowed to do it. I believe there should be some kind of skin test or something. It is not fair on the jiu jitsu guys at all when guys are greased up. But as of right now i wouldn't be surprised if we see many more fighters doing it.
I definitely don't agree with it. Just making the point that in comparison to what Chael done in the first fight with the juicing it seems minor. Plus its not really relevant to the outcome of this fight anyway. IMO of course. :-)

I was thinking along the same lines. Balences out the whole trt issue, in Andersons head anyway. I think Anderson had a few thousand too many Brazillians complaining to him about the disrespectful kinda racist jokes everyday for the past couple months. Maybe Chael can now go to South America without getting death threats from a feeling of being avenged by Anderson's show of anger. Sucks people take pro wrestling to be real and also take Sonnen's comments to be real, but it happens.

There is a hidden code of respect sometimes between fighters in the cage. Like I wont stomp your feet if you dont stomp mine. Most know the idea that you can kick a guy in the balls, grab the cage, poke an eye, and usually just get a warning. Sometimes things might happen to make someone decide to go down that road with someone

I know a couple fighters that use cocoa butter leading up to the fight. Word on the street is it comes out of the pores when you sweat, but its all speculation. I have never done it but seems plausable. Either way the minute they start grappling the vasoline will end up getting transfered from the face to everywhere. I never have noticed it while fighting or maybe I wasnt thinking about it.

at least he didn't pull a gsp before the 2nd fight with penn at ufc 94 i think where gsp was so greased up penn's legs were sliding like crazy off him.
