First, my name is not Tom Doe. I don't want to disclose my identity (unless Eddie feels he should know, otherwise I don't feel comfortable doing this with my identity being known) as I feel like it would make this complicated. I do train at a 10th Planet location, have met tons of people at this place and have loved it so far. I hope to travel more, and honestly want to make it in Jiu-Jitsu and MMA. This shit is all I got now.
Second, I know I can't just fall back on fighting. I want to use it in my life because I can't live a "normal" life. It's just not for me. With this experience I want to document my honest feelings so that I know I can never lie to anyone when it comes to talking about my life with other hopes of becoming a better writer, or use it to discover what else I could do as time goes by.
Third: I don't want to just focus on what goes on at the gym. I have a lot of stuff going on and want the people who don't train what else goes on in at least one person's life besides the struggles in the gym, with injuries, or mental roadblocks when techniques aren't coming together smoothly. Since Day 1 I've been gaining a new respect for fighters despite how I feel about them inside a cage, ring or on a mat for what they go through, as what I go through now is nothing compared to them.
But the main thing is this: this is about a human being. Just like you. Just like the person who reads this after you, and so on. I want people to see this. Not just Jiu-Jitsu or MMA guys, but anyone with a pulse so that they can see that not only we as fighters, both aspiring and professional, have honest and real feelings as well and aren't just violent savages. I want others to realize that no matter what we choose to do in life, that we're all still real people who go through real shit everyday just like the rest of the world. My short time as part of the 10th Planet Family has inspired me a lot to tell these stories of my journey and hope that it inspires others to talk about themselves, their lives, and think about things differently. Maybe I won't change the world, but it'd be cool to get others to read and share their experiences in the future in a similar format. It'd be cool if more guys still coming up, learning, or teaching open up more like this.
Please take the time to read what I've wrote so far. I'm working on something that I might put up tomorrow night focused more on training. It's a work in progress but any feedback is welcome. This is something for anyone interested in reading about someone going through a similar journey or wants to, or for anyone who has gone through it and wants to see what it's like for someone to go through what they've been through. I'm not afraid to throw my emotions out there, so expect an honest look at training. Thanks!
