Bottom Side Control to Twister / Sorcerer from mount

Hi guys, I've been pulling off a move to twister that I wanted to share. I am very flexible.

When I am in bottom side, i hook my far leg over to the closest leg of my opponent, then I use that to put my close leg under my opponent's leg and then turn that into a lockdown. Usually my opponent is holding my head with the arm I need for the twister since he thinks he still has side control. Then I push him to the side (instead of on top of me) with his arm still trying to control my head. Then I just put on a RNC grip and the tap comes.

I've done this two times, once last night and once in the last month, in different schools against low level opponents.
For me, hooking the leg with my far leg is my best shot to either escape from side or turn it into a twister, I don't like to use bridges too much since my opponent knows its coming and may have practices it alot. Not alot can expect the leg hook since flexibility is required.

Another thing I have been doing is gogoplatas, I was thinking that I could do a sorcerer from the top. After putting the normal gogo, its a bit awkward to then go behind the head to grap your foot, I've done it on white belts two times in the last month, but it seems to me its better to just zombie the other arm and put the leg over from the top mount, has anyone done sorcerers from the top mount yet, is there a reason it won't work?

Is it even legal to pull off twister in other Jiu-Jitsu schools besides 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu and MMA???

I use it. It's definitely viable if your monoplata game is up to par.

Not to blow up your spot, but has anyone found it easier or harder to attempt or get a twister in the gi? My school does pretty much all gi, especially now that people are preparing for a competition and we are a small school.

I feel like almost any offense is easier in the gi (generally speaking, of course). Defense is almost always MUCH more difficult. This is my personal experience. And I don't play in the gi all that often, so you may wanna take what I say with a grain of salt

I'm actually glad i saw this on here..

I've been focusing more on 10th P when i do my nogi rolls at my gym (which is barely ever cause they mostly focus on Gi Bjj) since i am about to get my blue belt and i have it set in my mind that i want to make the switch to no gi soon after..

anyways, as far as i know, this set up to twister isn't in any 10P instructionals, books or dvds (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and this seems to be the easiest, in fact only way, that i have set up and pulled of the twister so far..

this technique can only be applied when your opponent has you in a scarf hold/jude side control and he leaves his top leg out for you to hook with your far leg (requires flexibility)

i have only done it twice since there is a sweep that i usually look for in that position and i don't always look for twister in my traditional school(some of u know how that goes) but when i have done it, i hook around the thigh area and keep that part locked up and it seems to be really tight and then you have to clinch and turn and put their back on the floor.. from that point u just fight for the twister like normal..

its funny cause i went to look up a you tube video cause i didn't know exactly what that side control hold was called and this video came up where Coach Zog even mentions the twister possibility from this position and how to prevent it ..

Does any one at higher levels have any luck getting twister from here?? or is this mostly prevented from doing the CORRECT scarf hold/judo side control???

This is probably one of the best setups for the twister , because alot of the other setups, you are giving up a higher percentage move. For example, going from back control to single leg back control just to go for the twister is a bit of a flashy move. I'm all about flashy moves (pulled off a sorcerer ystdy)

when you hook the leg while in bottom side, the opponent is very often holding your head, its the most simple/easiest submission you could do in this situation. All you have to do is apply a RNC grip and twist

I think you are talking about the judo twister? It's in eddies book, mastering the twister, page 246. It's a twister transition from bottom judo side control but you have to be able to lock down that top leg to pull it off. I also find in some situations if your opponent reaches down to block your foot you can grab his wrist and weave your foot into the crook of his elbow and sweep him backwards.
