Paul, I just finished doing 11 years in prison. I've never been to a prison in England nor do I know anything about it. But people are people and that's what I do know.
Do your time, don't let it do you.
Keep your mouth shut if you see anything.
Make the most of it. I worked out, ran, read, bettered myself as much as I could
Pick your friends, DO NOT let them pick you.
Stay away from drugs, alcohol, gambling, gangs, and punks. Every guy I saw get killed or hurt, always had something to do with one of those reasons.
Don't try and be anything you're not.
Don't try and be a bad ass, tell everyone you're a black belt or something stupid like that. When you get into it, and you will get into it, everyone will see what you can do, and the word will spread fast. I'm a white belt in Jiu-Jitsu, and they treated me like I was a UFC champ. Only took one choke out and one arm bar.
Cells are the worse place for a fight. It's a big mans game in there. If you even think you're going to get into a fight, do not step into a cell with a guy that is bigger then you. Handle your business outside the cell.
By all means exercise and work out. Guys that don't go to the yard and hide in their cell are noticed and everyone knows they're hiding from something.
Be prepared for your woman to leave you. It will very likely happen. If/when it does, do not let that get you down. Keep your eye on the prize. The prize is your freedom and release date.
I'm going to be on the road tomorrow. I'm going on a 3 week vacation. If you'd like to talk, you can give me a call or text message me at (424) 477-2074. I wish I could think of more things to tell you to help you out.
I will tell you this, 14 months is nothing. It took me a couple years before I even knew what was really going on inside of prison.
Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to call me. Keep in mind that I am in the states Pacific time zone.
