    Weidman vs Silva possible?

    http://www.mmamania.com/2012/8/13/32...rson-silva-ufc

"We haven't done anything yet. Anderson said he wants to take some time off until after the end of this year, [then] we'll start talking to him. [Chris Weidman] is in a great spot. The kid looked fantastic, demolished the number three guy. Demolished in spectacular fashion. He's got the right to call out whoever he wants [but] he's gonna have to wait, or fight, because Anderson's gonna fight after the end of the year."
Typical Dana; hinting at it, but not confirming it. I'm also thinking that Silva has the leverage on the final word, so we'll see.

I'm thinking Silva's camp is ducking Weidman to force him into taking another fight. I'm not sure if Weidman can afford to wait until Silva feels like fighting.

Weidman is a dangerous matchup and I think Silva's camp knows it. I don't think Anderson is the one ducking. Maybe he is, but I'm thinking it's his camp who knows the Silva stock will take a hard dive if he loses to Weidman. Right now he's the king. He can pick and choose. He has the legend aura. A loss to Weidman, a kid with only a 9 fight record, is going to make him look really bad.

So, yeah. I'm thinking this is a strategy to force Weidman to take a fight. Which, in my opinion, he should. He needs another highlight worthy fight to make audiences care. He should also take another fight to confirm the hype is real. But if (big if) he does get the next title fight, I wouldn't be upset.

I look at it different. As a champion you shouldn't "pick and choose" who you fight in your weight class, you should fight who is considered the number 1 contender no matter who the UFC and fans feel it is. I hope Anderson Silvas attitude of declining fights and calling certain people out (Rockhold / Bisping) and being reluctant and opposed to fight who is considered the top guy isn't contagious. I don't wanna see Floyd Mayeather like actions where a champion picks who he wants to fight and ducks other ones. This is why Jon Jones and GSP have a lot more respect from me then Anderson Silva... Even if he is considered the P4P best.

It isn't about that for Anderson. Part of Anderson's pay comes from PPV buys, he gets a percentage, and he simply feels that Weidman hasn't got the fanbase/name recognition he wants for big PPV sales/big money, and he is right. At this stage of his career who can blame him. Its not like he is 25 anymore. Weidman needs another couple fights IMO, however i agree, he is a bad match up for Anderson. But right now they couldn't sell that fight, just not enough interest.

I am hoping either GSP beats condit and we see the GSP vs Silva superfight @ a catchweight of 178, or if Bisping beats Stann, Bisping vs Silva would sell heaps. All the bisping and Silva fans will buy that, and so will the Bisping haters hoping to see him get ktfo again. That fight would see a LOT more than the Weidman fight. :-)

Or how about Weidmann fights winner of Bisping/Stann and winner of that fight gets the shot if Silva wants to take time off and the GSP fight doesn't happen

I would love to see this fight like next week but I think its gonna be awhile. Weidmen is trying to pull talk his way in, I think he needs to beat a chael or a bisping first. Just my thoughts
